Commission by jurassicstrain!We share a common issue with a recent tidbit of news from Nintendo, and Miyamoto himself, stating that the Koopa Kids - most popular from Mario 3, the cartoons, and the more recent New Super Mario series - are actually not Bowser's kids at all. [link] It's a niggling point because it comes out years after it's been more than popularly established, takes away a significant aspect from the characters, doesn't substitute anything in its place, and, to top it off, Miyamoto doesn't care about story, so him pointing this out means nothing to him, and yet so much to the fans of the characters. Worst case scenario, it's simply to prop up Bowser Jr. over the Koopalings, who, while he has his moments, is still pretty much the Scrappy Doo of all Mario characters (or if you like Scrappy, more like the Poochie of Simpsons).
So this picture is pretty much a fanwanking of the situation. Even if the Koopalings aren't Bowser's biological kids, they might as well be - the perfect, little psychotic bunch of crazies for the King of the Koopas.
But it's all a moot point anyway because we all know how the Koopa Kids came about fo' rizzle. [link]

I agree with adopting the kids. Since I agreed in the Mario Wikia instead of the Super Mario Wiki because it means that they've been adopted. I also agreed in the manuel, too.

Thing is, the Koopalings were really never stated to be his kids in the first place, they were stated be Bowser's minions[this is still true for some countries outside NA]. (Heck, they didn't even have names when they first came out in Japan.) When the games crossed overseas, that's when the "canon" of them being his kids started, along with them getting names. (Plus the shows were made in America, not Japan) It's really not foreign for information to get edited when crossed over to other countries, but I understand why some people were shocked at the news.
Even though they're not blood-related to Bowser, that can still be his kids. You can just easily say they're adopted[or follow your personal beliefs].

Another thought came up for me. Why is adoption any less beautiful? If was assume "adopted" is a pejorative, it follows to some very uncomfortable conclusions and political positions.
Heck, that Bowser went out of his way to pick up the Koopa kids actually speaks to a soft and sentimental side to Bowser we don't see much (aside from the obvious manpower upgrade they offer his army). Whereas if Bowser Jr. is his biological kid, well, biology can compel even the worst of us to bring up a spawn and continue the gene line.

I never got why everyone loved the Koopa kids. They felt kinda bland and boring while at least Bowser Jr while a pain was at least filled with some personality. I always thought the kids where just an example of Bowser being really lame villain giving random kids command of his forces thinking that it would stop Mario. This image kinda cements my old theory of Bowser randomly picking generals for his forces but I still love it.

I wouldn't say he randomly picked generals, if you look at everything else in the mushroom kingdom he picked pretty well.
You need to remember that Mario is from another world, so may as well be considered the Cthulhu of the Mario universe.

I get where you are coming from. I still see it as random myself but hey they are better bosses then just fighting Bowser at the end of each stage.

well at least ther're still around and fighting mario and they didn't just disapear. I will admit I liked them being his children,but from what I heard in Japan they never were his kids so I guess it sort of like in sonic eggman/robotnick thing. I like Bowser Jr. he has some pretty funny moments and he has some fun boss battles to.

What, that it utterly trashed the mythos of the series in favor of a much lamer concept, and then shoehorned the first few games in the series into that history, even though they don't fit?
They can explain it as many times as they want, they can claim it all "works", but the fact is there is NO WAY the first three games (especially LttP) work in the new "improved" History of Hyrule as written by Ocarina Of Time. And before anyone says "Well, the Imprisoning War in LttP clearly references OoT", I have the Hyrule Historia from Nintendo, and no, they don't claim that at all. Apparently, the Imprisoning War happens years after OoT and involves a different set of Sages).
