So, I get why people are disliking this game. The bait and switch was aggravating. It does not appear to be an atmospheric, exploration-focused game. There’s no Samus. There might very well be no Metroids.
But the Federation guys look so cute having so much trouble with things Samus would just shoot a super missile at! And I love four-player co-op games and it looks like teamwork is a focus (Gotta work together when you’re not the Chozo-infused Girl Who Saved the Galaxy). And fleshing out the world of Metroid could prove narratively interesting. And, who knows, maybe Samus and the like could be in the game still, and maybe they’ll get adorable makeovers too.
I mean, circumstances are different, but on a similar note, I remember hating the crap out of Wind Waker when it was first announced because it ‘wasn’t what I wanted from the franchise’, but it ended up being awesome. The vice versa happens too - liking the reveal trailers and disliking the final product. So who knows how this’ll go - the Treehouse playthrough looked like fun, more so than the Direct trailer showed - I’m just gonna give the benefit of the doubt for this ‘un until we hear more about it.

The immature hate towards Federation Force is the Prime (lol) reason why I hate the Metroid fanbase. They're whining like little pussies up to the point where THEY MADE A PETITION TO CANCEL THE FUCKING GAME. It's fucking retarded if you ask me. Hey, whiny Metroid fans, they're bringing your stupid Samus back into the game now(I have nothing against Samus, just her rabid fanbase). Take note that I don't think that everyone in the Metroid fanbase is being whiny about FF.

After Other M's failure, what Metroid needs is to return to the tried-and-true formula that made Super and Prime great: Samus, atmosphere, exploration, and total isolation. They can mess with spin-offs like Federation Force once the franchise is in a more favorable light.

What's funny about people hating on Federation Force is that the fanbase was practically pining for a Federation-related game (myself included) since Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, maybe even earlier. They finally get one and they're shitstorming.

"The bait and switch was aggravating." We are talking about the same internet that fought about the color of a dress a few months ago, so yeah, anything that goes slightly away from what they claim for true and facts is bound to a backlash, and that game was a time bomb that came in a bad time.

"The bait and switch was aggravating" There wasn't really any bait and switch tough. They first showed the minigame of that game clearly establishing g itwas NOT a mainlmine MEtroid game and then they outright made it clear it was a spin off during the digital event. At no po point did they imply "hey hey, we are going to give you a Metroid game" only to go "Psyche!". So for me all the anger doesn't make sense at all. Even the complain about "stappling the metroid name on it" make no sense. since when doing spin-off is forbidden? No on called for heresy when Metal Gear Rising Revengeance was announced.

People whine but, honestly, if there’s one series that needs to branch out, it’s Metroid. The franchise has always been a niche even among core/hardcore gamers and its stubborn fanbase doesn’t help much either. They don’t seem to want anyone except Retro studios to work on the series (seriously, they don’t want to let Retro work on any other IP and have even demanded they abandoned DK and have basically forbidden them from trying to create new IP’s. They want them working only on Metroid and nothing else) and want every Metroid game to be either a sidescroller or a Prime style FPS-like game and ,honestly, that would get boring after a while and make it harder to attract new fans (something the series really needs).
Fans need to let other studios experiment with the IP and let the series try out other gameplay styles or genres and if they want to have a higher amount of Metroid games per console generation they can’t be demanding that only one studio be permitted to make games with the IP. Sure, there’s no guarantee that Federation Force will sell well and it may not end up being good but it’s just a spin-off and it won’t “ruin” Metroid no more than Prime pinball did (yup, that game exists XD) nor will it prevent a new prime or main series game from existing. Heck, there are already plans for more Prime games and Federation force is basically and introduction to the future games.

Everyone needs to lay off. It's internal problems why the Wii U will sadly be Metroid-less(at least for Prime). Regular Metroid team leader hates Metroid Prime and wants to make more games like Other M(that aren't terrible), and Prime team has calculated the workload of a new Prime as 3 YEARS, and decided to hold it until the NX comes up. It's Super Metroid all over again(with more angry people).

Totally agree. I didn't get a Gamecube because I hated Wind Waker on principle. I've spent the rest of my gaming life kicking myself for not getting back into Nintendo til about three years ago. I hope others don't make the same mistake.

The hate is mostly the fact that it was shown at E3. You know, when people were hoping the next big Metroid title would be announced. So yeah, that's exactly why everyone reacted so poorly about the game.

The thing is, The Wind Waker wasn't a Zelda game in name only. Federation Forces is a Metroid game in name only. Nintendo actually might have been better off remaking Hunters instead.

It really isn't. It's set in the same universe as the other Metroid games, there's the federation, the Space Pirates and most probably other creatures from the Metroid games. Just because there's no Samus doesn't mean it's not a Metroid game.
I'm not a fan of games that mainly focus on multiplayer, but if I was, I'd probably buy this game too. It looks promising.

The producer of this game, said he did want to continue with Metroid Prime, but he wanted a game that focuses on the Federation guys. Plus, it's only a spin-off as it is.
