Even though she's a background pony, she somehow found her way into our hearts. But the reason for me is unknown... Any suggestions to how she got to our hearts?

I'm pretty sure it's because of the way background ponies are handled. The ones that have gotten a following have one interesting thing about them that people can latch onto and expand on. For Vinyl Scratch it's just that she's a DJ. For Derpy, it's her eyes and Lyra it's the way she sits on a bench. It gives the fans a good starting point to make the character into whatever they want them to be. Fans can choose the fanon they want to believe in and like the character in their own way. And since they are background characters, there's less of a chance of fanon being destroyed in an episode. Fans feel like they had a part in the creation of the character. Or at least that's how I see it anyway.
TLDR: Fans make background ponies into whatever they want them to be and feel closer to their character as a result.

Your probably right. I'm really surprised I haven't seen all that much talk about it though, especially since it slightly steps on the fanon of the red eyes by being Magenta. I guess the episodes were full of tons of other things to chat about.

I personally don't like the red eyes, and think it's obnoxious when people say "She has red eyes" they don't flippin' know. So I liked seeing her with blue eyes.

Yaay! Red eyes are the most overused, obnoxious "coolness-attribute". And Scratch is way too cool to deserve something so tacky! I'm glad at least a few people prefer blue eyes as well.

Vinyl Scratch, according to a large majority of people, arts/pictures(a quick search, just on DA, shows it easily) and stories, has red eyes. They contrast nicely with her electric-blue mane.

I know the popular fanon is red eyes and I'm quite the fan of the choice myself. I just had this ([link] ) on my mind when I was drawing. Although, I do wonder if they will ever show her without the glasses on the show anyway.
