Description

Ogra & Gorgo

Intro:  In 1961, a strange bout of volcanic activity occurred near the little island of Nara off the coast of Ireland.  The turbulent geology forced a section of the seabed to the surface, forming a temporary island before its foundations collapsed and it disintegrated into the sea after only a few days.  The event was covered by many news outlets at the time, and a few exceptional photographs seemed to glimpse the ruins of artificial structures through the volcanic haze and sea mists.  There appeared multiple reports of strange fish caught shortly after the event, many of which appeared to be mutated or new species of coelacanth.  One exceptionally large and ugly specimen eventually made its way into a local carnival, where it was branded “Gorgo” after the mythical snake-woman.  These specimens, though, decayed rapidly, and the possible ruins on the brief island went unsolved in light of their destruction.  These stories would fade into urban legend, only taken seriously by the population of the small town on island of Nara.  There, the fishermen recalled tales passed down the generations of a once-mighty people whose ruins and treasures they sometimes snatched in their bottom-dredging nets, and of their ancient protector goddess; Ogra.

Story:  The tall tales would prove to be all too real, as a massive creature, labelled by FATHOM as Ogra in honor of the legends surrounding her, was among the several kaiju that partook in a migration event towards the reawakened living island of Mu.  The most collateral damage she caused along the way was during her passing through London, costing the city a few major landmarks.  Most of her travels were done close to the seabed, out of range of most naval strikes.

Arriving at Mu, she took residence among the anterior carapace caverns.  She was rarely spotted during the day, though she’d occasionally hunt parasitic Gamines and approaching female Yongary by night.  Soon, after a period with no sightings, she reemerged from her lair along with her single offspring, later named Gorgo in reference to past events.  Gorgo and his mother thrived upon Mu, with the calf growing strong within the nutrient-rich water surrounding and within the massive host-creature.  During the Battle of Mu, when Gorgo was targeted by warships, Ogra was quick to retaliate.  Godzilla’s arrival sent her again into hiding to protect her son.

Afterward, the pair would remain upon Mu until King Ghidorah’s attack.  Ogra was last observed gravely wounded, but shepherding her son into the depths of the ocean, from whence neither has been seen since.

Abilities:  Though superficially reptilian, study of shed skin patches have indicated a synapsid ancestry, perhaps even a retrogressed form of early Ambulocetid.  Like whales, Ogra possessed exceptional hearing.  Though she did not appear to echolocate, she was able to track possible prey and enemies from long distances.  Hypersonic recordings revealed that she and her son were in near-constant communication via a series of complex song-like vocalizations.

Despite being near to, or possibly of mammalian stock, Ogra’s super species seem to have re-evolved more basal reptilian traits, such as tough armored skin, simplified dentation, and a mesothermic metabolism allowing for extended periods of dormancy.  Amphibious in nature, Ogra was a powerful kaiju that tackled prey with crushing jaws and heavy blows inflicted by her large claws.  She was both an adept swimmer, and a competent fighter on land, allowing for general adaptability in exchange for excellence in a single element.

Character:  Ogra usually appeared to be a docile and reclusive kaiju.  Indeed, she appeared primarily confused rather than predatory during her single attack in London.  Some FATHOM archaeologists have suggested, in lieu of the vague ruin-like structures reported near her point of origin in the 60s, that she may have previously interacted with the still-largely-mysterious Paleolithic world-civilization in some fashion.

Regardless of her past, it was clear that Ogra was entirely dedicated to her son, Gorgo.  Unlike many other kaiju migrators, she was evidently a K-strategist, investing much energy into a single offspring for a more stable population.  She was extremely protective of Gorgo.  While her first instinct was to call him back to their nest to hide, she would viciously attack anything that can close to harming him, as a few unfortunate warships at the battle of Mu found out the hard way.  Ogra’s fate remains unknown, as neither her nor Gorgo has been located after fleeing Ghidorah’s rampage.  However, traces of volcanic activity have resumed near the little island of Nara off the coast of Ireland…

Much apologies for the extended wait on this one.  had a lot of real-life business to get through.  Anyway, that concludes the Rogues Gallery of the first KR run.  There may be one more little surprise before the second series kicks in, and I hope you may enjoy it.    As always, thanks for viewing my work, and I hope everyone has a nice day until next time!

Question: Did Ogra conceive Gorgo via parthogenesis, Komodo-style, or did she find a mate somewhere?

Quick question: how do you come up with dimensions for your kaiju reimaginings, specifically weight? I'm genuinely curious as to where your numbers are coming from, because they look to be very deliberate.

i found out that there are even more obscure Kaijus for a potential take in KR, the following ones are:

Gogola from the eponymous lost indian film, the space monster Wangmagwi, Galgameth from The Legend of Galgameth, Buraki and Imoogi from D-War, Cykor from Yonggary 1999, the tunicate-inspired monster from Sector 7, Gwoemul from The Host and the titular superpig Okja.

Fascinating ideas.  I love discovering new tidbits of monster lore like this!  Thanks.

and i have a few more monsters for potential takes:

Khanivore and Turboraptor from Love Death & Robots, too many MH monsters to choose but Nerscylla, Ahtal-Ka and Vaal Hazak would be the best, plus some of the Iceborne monsters, maybe Pokemon creatures if they can be incorporated into KR.

Here's an upload of the Galgameth movie for some HD shots, at least. It's more or less a remake of Pulgasari, just with a dragon / dinosaur statue in the Middle Ages.

I guess that finishes up all the kaiju that didn't get spotlight in the original KR series. Read Ogra's name as "Orga" at first, ha ha - I hope Orga himself gets an entry in the second series, among others.

yeah but, what if male and females of ogra and gorgo's species looked different, like males being slightly bigger and being slightly more prettier looking, to attract females, so when gorgo's a grown man, the UK will be fucked

yep, also one interesting fact is that the Capsule Kaiju from Ultraseven (part of the Ultraman franchise) were one of the several inspirations for the Pokemon franchise, and in the Pokemon series itself there are some creatures that are references to Godzilla like the similar-looking Tyranitar, the Baragon-inspired Nidoking, the Ghidorah-based Hydreigon, etc.

Well, I think you deserve a TVTropes page! Not only is this series amazing in its own right, but it’s also inspired many people (including me) to make their own fanfics based around more realistic and bizarre depictions of Kaiju. All I can say is thank-you so much for making this series, and I can’t wait to see what Season 2 has in store!
