Description

Pulgasari:

Intro:  The existence of the one that would come to be called Pulgasari was first alluded to by a small stone statue and collection of weathered diagrams and manuscripts from a lost paleolithic civilization, collected during FATHOM’s first expedition to Skull Island in 1973.  Another like him, the one that would be called King Caesar, was found in Okinawa.  However, the location of the second ancient cyborg was lost for decades.  Going by what remained of the hieroglyphic diagrams, some thought that perhaps that was for the best.  Unfortunately, the metal bull would indeed be found…

Story:  It began with the eruption of Paektu Mountain, a volcano on the border of China and North Korea.  The eruption exposed a cavern wherein the dormant kaiju was found.  Promptly claimed by the government of North Korea before FATHOM could interfere, as it was technically within their territory, the heavily modified metallic bull-like creature was soon dubbed “Pulgasari”.  Over the next few months, the creature was moved near the nation’s capital, Pyongyang, in preparation for a ritual that was believed would grant control over the beast.

This belief stemmed from intel collected by a spy that had managed to infiltrate FATHOM following the disclosure of many of their files and bases, among which was Caesar’s temple in Okinawa.  Many governments and other parties were keen on discovering what secrets they could steal from the kaiju-research organization for their own purposes, and the two stone statues, representing a connection with King Caesar and Pulgasari, were unfortunately stolen by the North Korean agent.

Though retrieval was attempted, the ritual was successfully performed on the appointed day, and Pulgasari was activated.  Things, of course, didn’t go as his restorers had hoped.  Showing no empathetic connection to humans, the metal bull proceeded to rampage through the streets of Pyongyang, devouring many metal infrastructures and growing stronger over time.  All conventional weapons failed to stop him, and by the time he entered the sea en route towards Okinawa, nuclear weapons were considered and deployed once he had travelled far enough off shore.

Meanwhile, King Caesar was also activated and engaged by U.S. and Japanese armed forces.  He avoided destroying them when possible, though, and began heading towards the city of Naha.  The stone feline’s instincts were justified as Pulgasari reemerged off the coast, seemingly having absorbed a great deal of the atomic blast.  Fortunately, he was halted and redirected away from the city by Caesar before to much damage could be inflicted.  The ancient titans’ battle lasted hours.  Caesar was more maneuverable and precise, while Pulgasari had more brute force and mass to spare.  Pulgasari would also periodically radiate stores of burning energy, forcing Caesar on the defensive at these times.  Each was tested to the limit of their endurance and durability, but King Caesar managed to triumph in the end.  After Pulgasari’s flaring had partially melted his own dorsal spines, Caesar was able to latch onto the back of his neck and, with his saber teeth and powerful arms, decapitate him.  With the lifeforce gone, Pulgasari’s remains quickly oxidized and rusted away as Caesar entered dormancy once more on the shores of Okinawa.

Abilities:  Pulgasari was an immensely powerful kaiju in both natural and augmented respects.  In battle, his massive horns, tusks, and sharp hooves brutally tore through opponents and structures alike.  Originally found frozen by a lost paleolithic society, his body was fitted in a flexible suit of metallic armor, lending him further protection from enemy blows.  Though his larger size and more extensive armor made him considerably slower than his old nemesis, King Caesar, he was still able to charge at considerable speed given an obvious target.

Pulgasari’s armor seemed to have been somehow infused with his metabolic processes, allowing for regeneration and adaptation.  He consumed a variety of metals as if they were grass, incorporating and refining them into unknown alloys within his body.  The more he consumed, the more derived and powerful his mass and abilities became.  This process seemed to have grown beyond what his creators initially intended.  With no limit to this “metallic-evolution” observed during his battle with Caesar, it’s possible that, had he been unrestrained, Pulgasari could have grown exponentially in mass and destructive potential.

Like Caesar, Pulgasari was equipped with efficient energy regulation systems, allowing him to store and process a variety of energies.  He absorbed thermal, solar, and nuclear energies especially well.  When exposed to a massive amount of such energy, he was able to maintain stability by entering a state of heightened metabolic output.  In this so-called “Burning Bull” form his entire body surface would become red hot and highly radioactive, making prolonged melee combat with him extremely difficult during such periods.  Eventually, though, this would burn through his reserves, and be forced to either consume more metal for fuel or seek another source of energy.

In addition to such energetic control, Pulgasari also demonstrated a strange and devastating ability to create a sort of magnetic vortex in his mouth.  He used this, at times, to better extract metals for consumption, but he was also able to draw in projectile weapons aimed at him as well.  Such projectiles would be amassed and compressed into a molten sphere that, upon discharging the magnetic vortex, would be fired at great speed and force against his enemies, effectively turning humanity’s fire power against them.

Character:  For the most part, Pulgasari seemed to have little else on his mind but eating and becoming stronger.  If the lost paleolithic race had attempted to program any sort of imprinted loyalty in his thick skull, they failed.  How much of his behavior was influenced by his intended use as a weapon of conquest is unknown, though he certainly regarded most everything around him as a potential enemy.  He let nothing stand in the way of his insatiable gluttony, and was quick to deal with human attempts to slow him down.  He seemed to have an instinctive awareness of King Caesar, possibly due to a violent history between their species.  This may be substantiated by the old records telling of their discovery in close proximity to each other with notable inflicted wounds.

there is a 2016 movie called "Colossal", it has a reptilian Kaiju, which looked a bit interesting since it reminds me of an Ent with a bit of rocky skin and a distinct "ribcage".

for KR a take on the Colossal Kaiju could be a vaguely anthropoid biolithic amphibian, with armored scales that glow, i would call it Geodaehan.

I mean, I think youll have to check with Toho and the North Korean film industry if its anything official, but if you like my designs then thats cool.    Some credit as the inspiration would be appreciated, though.

Well, pulgasari was essentially Godzilla with bull horns and bronze skin anyways, so I think transapient is entitled to change the design for kaiju revolution a bit.

This isn’t “a bit”. You do understand the difference between a redesign and creating something else entirely, don’t you?

That idea stemmed from that one scene in the movie where he catches a fireball launched by catapults in his mouth and spits it right back at them.  Good stuff.
