Description

Throughout the Cosmos, many naturally evolved sophont species take part in creating, upbringing, and/or siring so-called “artificial races.”  Broadly speaking, and artificial, or created, sophont or species is one which did not or could not have evolved in a natural setting.  The most commonly recognized NNCS (Non-Naturally Created Sophont) are Transapient races.  A Transapient species is one which has an ancestry of a non-sophont creature, or “animal”, and which has been engineered, bred, or augmented towards full sophonce.  But there are many, many widespread groups and species in the universe whose origins are not-so-natural, yet do not fit so neatly into the Transapient definition.  Here is a sampling of some common NNCSs.  Starting from top to bottom, left to right…

Crouse:  A very widely distributed and common NNCS, the Crouse are also among the oldest living species.  Their ancestry can be traced back 10 billion years ago, at the dawn of the First Great Era of Discovery.  Their exact origins have since been long forgotten, and it is even unclear now as to how they were even created.  What makes Crouse so unique is the fact that they are the first known quantum-foam-based-lifeforms.  Their “biology” is regulated and organized at the macroscopic scale along the loops, twists, and fluxes of the fabric of reality.  This has the effect of them not being made up of any consistent material, but of any sufficiently solid matter they currently reside in.  For example, a Crouse within a brick wall will manifest as itself as a body of “living” bricks, sprouting out of the surface; a wooden or plastic desk will sprout a wooden or plastic Crouse.  Crouse can only live and move within sturdy, solid material, which they call “Rippling-Spaces”.  They cannot penetrate into “loose” materials, such as sand or fabrics, or liquids or gases, all of which they call “Shattering-Spaces”.  They can pass between solid surfaces by using quantum vibrations to very briefly merge the two surfaces together, creating a “bridge” for them to pass.  All Crouse manifest as a head, attached to a flexible neck, and two additional tendrils which can be used as hands.  Their eyes allow them to see whenever they poke them out of whatever they currently inhabit.  The structures and “wiring” of the top and bottom of their heads is what produces the quantum resonance frequencies they need to move through solid forms.  Despite being devastated by all three Omniscide Wars, the Crouse have continued to survive.  A Crouse is able to alter its perception of time when locked deep inside a solid body, like a sort of hibernation.  In theory, they are potentially immortal as long as they have a rippling-space.  Though many Crouse populations and individuals prefer to remain reclusive or undisturbed, many have also taken a liking to life in Cosmic Civilization as well, where they can be found in numerous and unique occupations and professions.

Azwu’mo:  The Azwu’mo race, now one of the most prominent in their home sector, is of a most unexpected origin.  Their homeworld, a small planet called Keth, formed around its star in a system due to be colonized by the Seraph race, some 30 million years ago.  There is a modern legend which tells of seven of the First Seraph Ultras who were sent to the system in advance to prepare for the first generation of the First Exodus of the Seraph flocks.  Upon the arrival of the first generation, there were fewer worlds than expected, and one of the seven Ultras was missing.  While those who stayed would forge a major chapter in Seraph history, the rouge Ultra had taken one of the only terrestrial planets in the system and fled with it into the undetectable regions of interstellar space.  This Ultra, obsessed with the idea of individuality, a little-known concept to Seraphs, used er own psellular zenergies to permanently terraform the world into a warm, safe haven in the cradle of nebulae.  E seeded the world with life, into which e encoded a psellular destiny to evolve towards an intelligent form within 15 million years.  The resulting warm-blooded, adaptable, snail-like race, who called themselves Azwu’mo, possessed a high awareness of individuality, just as the Ultra had wanted.  At the Azwu’mo race’s First Contact, they were initially shunned by the Seraphs.  But their help in defeating a great threat to the whole sector earned them the respect they deserved, and modern Azwu’mo are among the Seraphs’ chief diplomats and mediators between them and other, more individualistic species.

Icluinian:  There was once a species, 48 million years ago, known as the Vux, who were a highly isolationist and xenophobic race.  They were a naturally evolved species native to a large super-earth world with heavy gravity.  This, effectively combined with their xenophobia, made them unwilling to leave their planet, even after First Contact.  Though their philosophies became advanced, and they lived in harmony on their world, the Vux refrained from interstellar travel away from home.  To counter this, they instead created a transapient race, the Icluinians.  A chimera-hybrid species, Icluinians were designed to live in the weightless environments of space colony habitats.  An Icluinian is, basically, a giant head with hands attached.  Large eyes enable vision in dim environments and over large spectrums.  Between the eyes, something like a biological radio allows for effective communication over long distances.  The beaked mouth sits between the foremost pair of tentacle-arms.  All Icluinians have the ability to move via autokinesis, and can even master teleportation.  With extraordinary senses, fast reflexes, and curious and creative minds, Icluinians were dubbed as “the perfect explorers” by many contemporary sophonts, including their Vux creators.  For 10 million years, the Icluinian race spread into the universe on behalf of the Vux.  Fate, however, saw the end of Vux civilization when their race gave its own last breath of psells to defeat an evil entity of their own creation.  The Vux succeeded in giving their lives to stop the threat, but now Icluinians had to govern themselves.  They did so quite easily, and their natural insatiable curiosity has brought them to some of the farthest corners of the universe.

Nathdye:  A few hundred million years ago, in the full swing of the Second Chance, after the first two Omniscide Wars, the machine-rights movement concluded in several sectors with the recognition of sophont, psellular machine life and liberty.  Some of the first fully machine-founded societies and cultures bloomed within dozens of galaxies.  Some had the right to seed or colonize worlds with machine life, so long as they did not interfere with biological life developing on other planets.  This rule was respected by the more compliant of machine empires.  There is always room for accidents, however.  The faction experimenting with cybernetic biospheres was also interested in nanotech-construct physiology.  A ship carrying nano-spores crashed on a world of methane oceans.  These spores were unable to be collected in time before they had spread throughout the world’s native biological life.  The result was a strange hybrid biosphere of biological androids.  This planet, planet Thegmo, would become the homeworld of the Nathdye race.  The Nathdye, standing up to five meters tall, are the prime-body/child form of the species.  They are cared for by the second-body/parent, the semi-solid sphere of hovering nano-spores.  These guide the perpetually childlike Nathdye through life, including mating, when their spores mix to form a new individual within one of the Nathdye.  Once a new Nathdye is born, e will develop er own parental sphere as e matures.  A healthy Nathdye is one which the parent is gentle and respecting of the Nathdye’s own mind.  Communication with these parent spheres is rare, as the Nathdye are subtly guided to speak for themselves.  The tripedal, cushion-handed Nathdye are among the most sensitive and friendly races in the universe.  Perhaps it was for this very reason why they were made prime targets in the Last Omniscide War.  By surviving, Nathdye have become widespread and guarded by many other sophont societies.

Psymoeba:  Commonly encountered in many societies throughout the cosmos, the beings referred to as Psymoebas are as diverse in mind as they are in form.  “Psymoeba” is not the name of any specific species, but is a general term used to define any type of gelatinous, shape-shifting entities of artificial construct.  Virtually every developing sophont race eventually develops its own version of a Psymoeba.  There are a few especially ancient species who claim to be descendents of the original Psymoebas, created by the First Eulophite Ultras themselves.  Some species or types are nanotech-based.  Others are android, cybernetic, or biological.  Specific chemistries are wildly diverse and subject to change, as many Psymoebas can train themselves to alter their own chemical makeup to adapt to new environments.  A defining trait of all Psymoebas is their reliance on psellular autokinesis.  This personal power allows super-accelerated distribution and production of electrochemical enzymes used in their metabolisms and thinking.  Many Psymoebas reproduce either by ceremonial splitting, or by merging (often with one partner) and separating into several new entities.  Psymoebas’ shear diversity and simple, recurring design ensures that they will be a part of Cosmic Civilization for a long time.

Zyronael:  Among the most mysterious, yet recognizable NNCSs across many sectors are the Zyronael.  These highly physically advanced beings own their creation to the now vanished Tr ha-Yi.  The Tr ha-Yi were renowned in many galaxies as beings with an unshakable respect for all naturally evolving biospheres.  This love would turn out to be their end as they gave their last lives to protect and save as many living worlds as they could during the Last Omniscide War.  During those final days, the Last Tr ha-Yi Ultras used the last of their power to create a race destined to grow with the same respect for all races, and the power to defend them.  The Zyronael have acted as cultural explorers and guardians ever since.  Zyronael minds are conceived and grown within one of several “Homes” (simply called by Zyronael), massive, psellularly-charged nebulae, forged by the Tr ha-Yi Ultras.  From there, they are assigned a system or planet to watch over, usually with consent from that system or planet by communing with the native Ultras.  From the start, their bodies take the form of one of the primary species on that world.  In this stage, they learn of life as one of these people.  In the second stage, they grow strong enough to transform into their Zyronael form.  This form is a radially symmetrical, flying being with eight finely feathered leg-wings.  These wings are not used to fly in the traditional sense.  Zyronael are natural masters at manipulating their own bodies and surroundings through autokinesis.  The “wings” serve only to channel the enormous psellular powers within their bodies.  The body also possesses a head with a halo-like structure which is linked to their perception and channeling of psells, as well as more “normal” senses.  This halo is held in place by a Zyronael’s unique electromagnetic aura.  Their advanced autokinesis means that they often go unaffected by the square-cube law.  Individuals have been reported as small as dust specks, to kaiju-sized specimens.  Often, at the end of the second stage, the Zyronael will enter the third stage; returning to “Home” to share one’s experiences before becoming one with the Ultra-mind again.  Sometimes, a Zyronael may chose to remain among the people it grew up with, eventually becoming part of the world itself.  There are many sects and guilds of Zyronael, constantly learning from and protecting a wide range of sectors in the cosmos.

Shaqua:  Another general term, “Shaqua” are any of various Intelligent Liquid Sophonts (ILS).  Their origins are as convoluted as the Pymoebas’, and as mysterious as the Crouse.  Although there are a number of instances where ILSs evolved naturally, the most well-known are those which have been created by various other cultures.  It is believed by some that the discovery of Shaqua was an accident.  During the First Great Era of Discovery, before the First Omniscide War, various liquids were being tested for their ability to retain, organized, and recall information.  These efforts, combined with psells to make them more efficient, spawned the first recorded Shaqua instances.  Because of their fundamental and fluid (pun) forms, Shaqua have survived over the eons through many different cultures and species into the present era.  Some of the more individual Shaqua enjoy life in specially designed containers and transports.  Some populations form entire oceans of Ultrasapients.  Many Shaqua have developed symbiotic relations with many other races by being the water/other liquid source on space habitat constructs.  The psells of their own being provide great energy for drinkers, while the Shaqua view the transition of one elemental existence into another as a cycle or rebirth.

Mbielu:  Among the most recently developed transapient race to acquire wide acclaim are the Mbielu.  They were actually created around 100 million years ago by the Tr ha-Yi as part of their policy when dealing with natural life-bearing planets.  As the Tr ha-Yi were subjecting Earth to their joint kaiju selection and creation process with other races (producing many well known modern Earth Kaiju), they still wanted the world they were using to have its own voice.  And so, they selected one of the least expected candidates; the stegosaur dinosaurs.  A hybrid species was produced, giving rise to the first civilization of stegosaur transapients.  The tiny brains the species naturally possessed were supplemented with psell power, cybernetic spinal columns, and a secondary magneto-psellular sphere in a ball-socket joint at the pelvis.  Modified genitalia allowed the males a form of natural physical manipulation, while females were able to make do with psychokinesis.  In many types, the thagomizer at the end of the tail was replaced with sensitive, fleshy tendrils, acting as a “hind-arm”.  These peaceful people served the Tr ha-Yi of the Milky Way well, in their own way, for millions of years with their naturally stable, yet flexible societies.  Then came the Last Omniscide War.  As all that was pure and good fell apart, the Mbielu enacted their final, desperate attempt to escape the madness.  They all went to sleep, in “Operation: Last Goodnight”.  Several populations hid themselves, along with any others they could, and fell into a state of deep mental recession now known as the “Far Dream”, where they were able to slow their perception of time.  Their bodies rotted and withered away, while their minds were protected within their spherical cyber-brains.  During this time, the Mbielu collected vast wisdom and organization within their collective dreamscape.  Even their modern Ultras appeared within this realm.  It was just about the same time as the Human race’s First Contact that one of the Mbielu’s secret hideouts was discovered.  It had only been a century or two to them, yet 65 million years had passed since a Mbielu walked in a physical body.  New bodies were grown for the survivors, which pointed the way towards the other hidden bunkers.  The Mbielu played a crucial role in the first negotiations with the Humans after First Contact.  This is also where they received their modern name, after a legendary creature of Earth lore, since they had forgotten their original name.  Due to their unique psellular-cyber-brain anatomy, Mbielu are able to perceive the “waking world” and the “dreaming world” often simultaneously.  This gives them some rather unique and often strange perspectives, and many sophonts who have talked with Mbielu describe them as “spacey”, “kooky”, and “weird”.  All in all, though, the average Mbielu is just as pleasant and well-meaning as ever.

These guys are more interesting than usual; apparently, artificial evolution can produce even weirder things.

Quantum and liquid life-forms, now we´re talking! I would like to see more creatures of this level of weirdness, I would like to see some 4-Ds, hydrogen/silicon things, radiation-ghosts, meme-entities, intellligent viruses or what else you have on paper.

I like the Crouse the best. The way they morph out of walls and floors, it sounds like something that could fit well in a creepypasta or lovecraft horror story. And their biology is so odd that I have a LOT of questions about how these things work (I might eventually put those questions in another comment ). I´m also curious if you have some other creature and technology concepts involving quantum stuff like Wave-Particle Duality, tunneling, superposition, or Observer/zeno Effect.

The Icluinian is a pretty cute combination of silly "green men" and something that doesn´t look too out of place in a Metroid game.

The Nathdye is pretty cute with its cushion-hands and odd with its abstract flamingo/whale-skull head. And I love this weird idea about their alien psychology, but I don´t fully understand it. How can an individuals growing nanospore sphere be more of a mature parent when it is just as young (and thus lacking experience) as its baby host?

The zyronael are cool with how they feel more like mystical entities than believable life forms, and that they reference the older depictions of christians angels.
Are there other sophonts inspired by abrahamic religion, or perhaps other mythologies?

And the Shaqua seems to be just as cool as the Crouse. I like the idea with sentient drinks/body fluids, but I wonder how they do survive when their host is drinking them.

The story about the Mbielus is just an amazing work of worldbuilding.
And I assume that the "dreaming world" is an metaphor for an virtual psychic internet-reality.

As usual, your creations always makes me wanna know more about them. With their bizarre bodies and psychologies, I can only imagine what strange cultures they would have. Would be awesome to read an xenofiction story with either an Shaqua, Tho, Nameless, Yugume, Zyronael, Aei Mon, Oqx'lg'i Phea'ko, Nathdye, Alloom, Dk´dk, Shmoo, Appi Uha, or an Mbielu as a point-of-view character.

Hey man, sorry for the late reply, but that's one of my weak points.  Plus, I had to have time to formulate a proper response, which is something that takes time with me.

You know, an idea along the lines of what you mention as "radiation ghosts" has been haunting my thoughts lately...  XD!

Knowing your apparent love for strangeness, it doesn't surprise me in the least that you take a liking to the Crouse.  And yes, they do possess an inherent sort of creepiness that could be exploited quite effectively if portrayed in a scary-ish story.  Think about it, you're sitting at your computer, late at night, when you hear some creaking sounds in the walls... but there's nothing there... until the noises start up again, seemingly moving within your home... "wall weasels?" you wonder...  then the walls have eyes...

To be honest though, you seem to know more, or at least are more aware of, quantum stuff.  The implications of unlocking those forces can be both frightening and fun.

Yeah, you know, I actually designed the Icluinian to resemble the stereotypical "grey" aliens in silhouette.  Perhaps those little grey/green men aren't so humanoid after all...

Oh yes, the Nathdye is totally designed to be totally sweet and lovable, if one can overlook their appearance and size.  I've had them in mind for quite awhile, and I actually only just came up with their backstory finally as I was drawing this.  I may have plans for the Nathdye yet...  Anyway, the nanospore body can be more intelligent and mature because of its more highly developed organization, devoted entirely to higher thought, and it perceives the environment in a much more "conductive" way.  The Nathdye bodies are content to plod along happily, their minds never developing past that "childlike innocence" stage.  But don't underestimate them; Nathdye bodies are also run on hard-wired instincts which, combined with their own strong emotions and their nanospore "parent-body" guidance, give them a strong sense of survival/empathetic morals.

The Zyronael were also designed to have that feel... imagine the stories they could be inserted into!  Oh, so much potential fun!  My Seraphs are actually based off of a vague recollection of angelic descriptions.  I wouldn't doubt that perhaps some as-yet-unthought-of aliens may be spawned of mythological inspiration...

The Shaqua have become such highly integrated into so many "planettarriums" (artificial space habitats or megastructures designed to house and support sophonts), that they are part of the those worlds water-cycle (or other fluid) systems.  Many cultures of Shaqua view the day they are drunk as part of their religious view on cycle and endless flow and transformation of life.

Although the Mbielu are certainly able to access virtual worlds better than most others, their "dreaming world" or "dreamscape" is actually a telepathic psellular connection to the realm of memes.  They are able to "wander" or "travel" this baseline psell vibe wherever there are other minds to support it, and can glean empathetic and telepathic awareness and sometimes a level of foresight among other sophonts.  Of course, by nature, they are prone to tuning out a lot of this when they are lost in their own thoughts and out of respect for others privacy.  Mbielu are an intriguing, if spacey, people...  They are a bit weird...

The possibilities of potential characters, settings, and plots featuring these and so many other of my aliens is definitely very exciting to me!

I understand you. I also like to think through a lot, before I say something.

Wow, I would like to see that!

Well, I don´t know that much of quantum stuff either, just that sci-fi writers use the terms to "scientifically" describe magic. Here is a piece of facts from TV Tropes giving a good overview of quantum physics. Hope that it helps.

Not only galactic, my project is set on a universal scale.

Anyway, thank you for your appreciation, and good question.  In my setting, which I'm calling the "Nexus", one of the most common abilities is the use of psychokinesis, which is utilized with the power of psells.  For more info on psells, refer to my literary deviation "Nexus: Essential Concepts".  Now, the way I imagine it, there are many potential specific branches of psychokinetic power, depending on what it is one is manipulating and how.  Autokinesis is the act of moving oneself by less-than-normal means.  At its basic level, AK can be used to improve and/or manipulate one's metabolism.  More advanced skills include channeling energies around or within oneself.  One of the highest achievements of AK for most "normal" sophonts is self-levitation and flight.  Entities with super-advanced psellular physiology, like the Zyronael, are able to stabilize their bodies through a kind of personal space-time warp field, scaling themselves up to various apparent sizes and inertia levels.

Sorry if it sounds a bit confusing, I'm not sure how possible something like that may really be, but hey, it's a science-fictional project I'm working on, and it does sound cool doesn't it?
