Description
Vastatosaurus Rex: A descendent of the tyrannosaur clade, the V. Rex is a monstrous representative of hypervore evolution. Their insatiable metabolisms, which enable them to make short work of practically anything they ingest, have doomed them to a lifetime of constant starvation. This unfortunate fluke that sometimes occurs during a species’ kaijufication process, perhaps due to a discrepancy between biochemical and bioatomic metabolic systems, has led to the development of creatures with hyperdeveloped predatory features constantly on the hunt. If left to their own devices, a single V. Rex is capable of decimating local populations. There are however, usually kept in check by other kaiju, sometimes even by Gorosaurus or Kong himself. The absence of Kong and the reduction of the Gorosaur population by half, however, has led to a recent and worrisome increase in V. Rex manifestations as the great devourers emerge from hidden nests deep in the Super Jungles, consuming all in their path. Length: 180 to 370 feet.
Arbor Elk: Possibly the largest deer to ever live, the Arbor Elk’s florafaunal biology has also led to a most unique reproductive system among mammalian-derived kaiju. At birth, all Arbor Elk are initially female, and no larger than an average deer. Their antlers develop from plant symbionts whose flowers catch the pollen released by the far larger male’s more branch-like antlers. These floral elements assimilate and pass on the creature’s own genetics through their own reproduction. The Elk’s female stage may last centuries as their gradually grow larger, during which many will fall victim to Skull Island’s numerous predators. Only those most fit for survival, therefore, reach an age whereby they become males. At this stage, they become the new protectors of the herds they lead, warding off attackers with their formidable size and antlers. Height (including antlers): 47 to 70 feet.
Vermipede: These snake-like arthropods are thought to be members of a group of unique centipedes native to Skull Island dubbed “Neopedes”. If so, the Vermipede would represent one of the most derived lineages. They are seldom seen near or on the surface, preferring to lurk deep within underground caverns, waiting for passing fellow troglodytes or unfortunate lost souls to serve as prey. Their muscular forcipules contain a lethal toxin similar to Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans, enabling them to subdue prey larger than themselves. They are, however, hesitant to persist if met with strong resistance. Length: 18 to 40 feet.
Sharklone: In terms of sheer numbers, these highly-evolved sharks are some of the more numerous predators of Skull Island’s chaotic coastal waters. Sharklones reproduce via parthenogenesis, and are capable of rapidly increasing their populations as needed. Unlike any other observed shark species, Sharklones are highly social predators that depend on a form of cooperative hunting in order to capture suitable prey. Their fins and tiny interlocking teeth that cover their bodies form an asymmetrical pattern that channels hydroelectrical energy as they swim. In large numbers, they are able to use this power to generate and control powerful currents that form maelstroms as they circle their prey as a pack. This traps and disorientates schools of smaller fish as well as larger animals, which the Sharklones take turns attacking. In recent years, possibly due to the breaches of Skull Island’s storm system following the events of Godzilla’s and later Ghidorah’s battles, at least six of these “sharknado” phenomena have been recorded outside the island’s sphere of influence, and all major populations along the Pacific Rim are advised to stay alert for and report any further manifestations. Length: 7 to 20 feet.
Meganulon: The swamps and rivers of the island are home to many predators. The Meganulon are one of the more secretive, yet feared of these races. These giant arthropods are seldom far apart. Like beavers, they work tirelessly to modify and expand their environment, digging tunnels and redirecting currents to convert more land into swampy bogs. Hunting, though, is an individual venture, which they accel at due to their bark-carapace camouflage, serrated claws, and extendable mouthparts. They may spend centuries as swimming predators before metamorphizing into winged Meganula under the right circumstances. They are well-known among FATHOM members due to a parasitic subspecies being documented since 1956 within the volcanic caves of Isla de Mona, the hibernation area of Rodan’s mate. It is currently unknown if the population on Skull Island represents the original species, or is itself an offshoot. Whatever the case, they too seem to have become more aggressively expansive since the disappearance of Kong, clashing heavily with Gimantids in particular. The Iwi say that these creatures, too, serve a greater monster hidden deep within the darkest swamp of the island. Length: 10 to 15 feet.

Creature Inspirations:
Vastatosaurus Rex: titular creature of King Kong 2005, Deviljho of Monster Hunter franchise, and Hypo Rex of The Isle 2015.
Arbor Elk: Plant-like deer seen in Annihilation 2018.
Vermipede: The worm-like creature seen in The Black Scorpion 1957.
Sharklone: Sharknado 2013, and a bit of the Sharkopaths of The Future is Wild 2002.
Meganulon: The insectoids seen in Rodan 1956, and Godzilla vs Megaguirus 2000.
Some design aspects based on ideas by fellow deviant, Lediblock2. Thank you very much, man.

with these Meganulon i hope to see the primordial dragonfly Megaguirus soon, maybe with the head looking more like a monstrous dragonfly with the fused compound eyes and mouthparts rather than a reptilian head.

I don't think it's intentional, but the Arbor Elk reminds me of the Forest God from Princess Mononoke.

1. V-Rex- my favorite dinosaur being a hypervore tyrannosaur; still would be brave/stupid enough to ride it like a war machine
2. arbor elk- very nice regarding growth
3. vermipede- so creepy yet really cans see in the spider pit
4. sharklone- while not fan of sharknado, the sharkopath is my favorite future creature from that series along with the snowstaklker, carakiller, and toraton. would like to see the latter two in some form in this series.
5. meganulon- so wonderful to see a toho monster here; can't wait to see meganula and their queen.

i love all these Skull Island monsters, especially the Vermipede and Meganulon.
i wonder if you will do a Menagerie of Mu's creatures?, you already done something similar when describing Mu itself, but there are still many different prehistoric, cambrian and precambrian beasts for inspiration, you could add an Opabinia beast, an Erbenochile trilobite monster with the tower eyes, or even more ancient.... archean giant amoebas with some inspiration from The Blob movie.
plus you could also give more clear art (as in the Skull Island Menagerie) of previous Mu creatures like the Hallucipod so i can see more details.

Yes! V. rex, my boi! Man, does he look wickedly gorgeous and terrifying with the combined attributes of Hypo Rex and the Deviljho mixed with Vastatosaurus' own from the 2005 movie. You have made him into the ultimate eating, killing machine that could give both Gorosaurus and Kong a run for their money...and for their lives. I congratulate you for integrating the V. rex into the Skull Island ecosystem, exceeding what I thought he would have turned out to be. I am a fanboy when it comes to Tyrannosaurus and seeing the beast made me really happy because it is definitely my favorite Skull Island monster out of all the others you put up so far with Venatoraptor being my second fav and the Ogreceratops being my third fav.
As for the pterosaurs, I understand your point. I'll wait and see what other critters you put up for Skull Island and maybe the pterosaurs or other pterosaur-like creatures like the Leafwing and the Psychovultures may be appear. On another note, I hope to see the giant mammoths soon.
Are you going to put in the like the horned white tiger for KR Skull Island's menagerie and give it a local name like Shere Khan?

Indeed, the V. Rex's are definitely a highlight of the 2005 movie. I especially love their crocodilian influences, like that CLOMP sound their jaws make as they snap shut.
And worry not, for many of the creatures you mention are awaiting their turn...

Thanks, especially the Mammoths, Leafwings, Psychovultures, and the horned white tiger! I just watched Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle so my mind is buzzing with ideas for local names for the Skull Island's Mammoths and the Horned Tiger based on Hathi and Shere Khan. Maybe put in a mutated, giant python to complete the reference to Kaa from the Jungle Book.

Somewhat ashamed to admit that I spotted that Deviljho influence from a mile away. I might be a little too obsessed with that franchise for my own good... On a related note, I think the V. Rex looks fantastic with how heavy-set it is. Really looks like one tank of a tyrannosaur.
Loving that Meganulon, and hoping we get to see Megaguirus in the future.
The Sharklones I love even more. I'm happy that you didn't deviate too much from the basic shark body plan - after all, they're practically the perfect predatory vertebrate, having survived many extinction events in the past, so why would kaiju sharks be any different? Also laughed out loud at the Sharknado reference, and another thumbs-up for the secondary inspiration! The Sharkopaths were awesome!

I don't think that anything to be ashamed of. There are some very cool creatures in that series.
And I was very curious as to what people's reaction to the Sharklones would be, given their infamous primary inspiration.

I really enjoy that you have Monster Hunter inspirations with the menagerie series. The lore/ecology of the monsters in the series is quite rich.
The Abor Elk's method of reproduction was unexpected... But you know what? I love it.
