Biollante Combat Forms

Intro:  During Ghidorah’s attempted invasion and destruction of Earth, many of the most powerful kaiju were compelled under his overwhelming influence to disperse and attack human settlements across the world.  It was through the combined efforts of Mothra and Biollante that they were subdued and set on the path to confront the true threat to the planet.

Ever since, the remains of Biollante’s secondary bodies, sprouted by spores carried by Mothra, have been quarantined from the public.  The inactive state of the growths, combined with more pressing issues, made their research of relatively low priority.

Now, the world faces a new crisis in the form of the Morlock invasion from Planet X.  Using advanced mechanical fortresses, known as M.O.G.U.E.R.A., and viral bioweapons, designated Guilala, the invaders occupied four areas across the Americas, the Philippines, and Japan, and were significantly bolstered by the acquisition of Godzilla, Kong, Rodan, and Anguirus as mental slaves to enforced their attempted dominion.  With these forces at their command, they began enormous excavations to uncover long-buried Mahar bioweapons that they believed would ensure their conquest of Earth.

Amidst the chaos, very few took note of the increasing metabolic activity within the husks of the plant goddess.  Of equally little note were the systematic tremors radiating from each of the quarantined zones, and converging upon the Morlock’s occupied regions as humanity’s final assault on the Mt Fuji base commenced…

Story:  Said final assault was successful in freeing the kaiju from the invader’s control through the efforts of the humanoid mech, Robomusume.  The breach in control was met with hostility from the Guilala and M.O.G.U.E.R.A. units, which immediately began to reengage and attempt to subdue Anguirus, Rodan, and Kong.  Godzilla, of course, made for the most trouble.  In his retaliatory rampage, he threatened not only the Morlock forces, but all humans within the area as well.  Many more would’ve died had Robomusume not intervened, keeping the King of Monsters attention on her.  Unfortunately, she was soon overwhelmed and at the mercy of Godzilla’s atomic fury.  But her distress signals had not gone unheard…

Before Godzilla could deliver a finishing blow, he was restrained by a multitude of great vines erupting from the ground.  A moment later, a full, mobile form of Biollante herself arose from the battlefield and made surprisingly short work in subduing Godzilla.  Meanwhile, other extensions of the botanical deity arose to confront the other kaiju, each taking on a different likeness to suit the environment and their opponent.  Rodan was engaged by an areal spore-like form.  Kong was tackled by a Godzilla-like body specialized for melee combat.  And Anguirus was assaulted by an aquatic alga body after being lured towards the sea.  Collectively, the avatars of Biollante were quick to focus the hostilities of the four kaiju solely upon the Morlock forces.  Rodan, Kong, and Anguirus made short work of their local M.O.G.U.E.R.A. units, while Biollante ruthlessly broke down and/or reabsorbed any Guilala they encountered.

What few elements of the invasion that managed to escape fell back to the base at Mt Fuji.  There, a final stand was made by the invaders as they desperately attempted to reach their goal deep within the Earth.  Biollante totally destroyed their surface forces, but they succeeded in breaking through to a great, artificial subterranean chamber – one of the sealed hives of the Mahar’s blasphemies.  The massive cave-ins that ensued brought both Godzilla and Robomusume into the cavern, after which most contact was lost.  What few snippets of Robomusume’s transmissions that were coherent signified that whatever was down there needed to be destroyed at all costs.

That cost would be Robomusume’s own life.  Her final transmission indicated that she purposely provoked Godzilla into blasting her with his atomic breath, causing a feedback overload within her exposed Power Stone, resulting in its detonation.  The underground explosion was felt many miles away, and resulted in the destruction and collapse of the entire chamber.  The backlash that reached the surface over the immediate area finished off the Morlock ground forces and ignited Biollante’s body.  Her task complete, she, along with her other avatars, disintegrated into spore clouds, drifting gradually back to Skull Island.

With that, the short, but haunting war between Earth and Planet X was over.  At least, in an active sense.  This event would herald a new planetary cold war that would become a major part of life in the years to come.  Rodan and Anguirus continue to be monitored as they resettle upon the Earth.  Kong has begun a long journey back to Skull Island that would see many challenges.  Godzilla is once again MIA.  FATHOM, and the governments of Earth scramble to salvage and study what can be recovered of M.O.G.U.E.R.A.’s and Robomusume’s remains, as well as traces and clues to whatever it was the Morlocks had wanted the unleash…

Abilities:  Biollante’s primary combative form is a nigh unstoppable mass of biolithic florafaunal physiology.  The immense trunk is supported by a highly mineralized yet porous “basket skeleton” arrangement, protecting several nodes and chambers dedicated to metabolic nuclear activity, similar in nature to what is believed to occur deep within the Earth.  This energy output is regulated and at times enhanced by her photosynthetic dermal layers of bark-like skin and dorsal leaf-plates, capable of absorbing solar radiation at an incredibly efficient rate.  At times, excess energy due to overexertion can be discharged through these layers in a manner similar to Godzilla’s Nuclear Pulse defense.

Though rather slow and limited in terms of mobility, Biollante doesn’t necessarily need to be agile.  Her shear mass, pulled forward by extended and contracting her roots, easily displaces and crushes most obstacles in her path.  Any attacker that attempts to approach directly is swiftly dealt with via a collection of continuously growing and shifting vines armed with secondary mouths and possibly even limited independent though similar to the arms of an octopus.  These can work alone or as groups to dispatch or restrain opponents.  The bark of these vines, indeed across most of her body, is laded with toxic barbs, spurs, and thorns of all types down to the microscopic level, increasing the vines’ adhesiveness.

Indeed, Biollante’s most formidable tactics involve an unprecedented degree of genetic and chemical adaptability.  She continuously assesses the biochemical makeup of her surroundings via sensory pits dotting her bulk.  This information is compared and contrasted with her internal “genetic library”, and her body will synthesize the most appropriate pheromone or poison as needed to deal with a physically tougher opponent, though this process takes some time, forcing her to plan her moves carefully in advance and to constantly stay attuned to her surroundings.  This effective, but sensitive process occurs in a system of sacks and pouches, akin to biochemical soup factories.  The radiation and heat generated by these reactions can be immense, which forces her to occasionally partially expose these organs to the open air.  While a damaged sack is easily regenerated, it can hinder her chemical attack patterns, so she must compensate via shifting nets of protective vines and thorns.

Once an opponent is sufficiently restrained, she may simply constrict them with her vines or gore them with her tusks.  Smaller enemies may even be eaten whole through her flexible jaws.  She may also further imprison them by vomiting torrents of sap that solidify rapidly into amber.  This sap also contains colonies of symbiotic bacteria that rapidly feed upon a kaiju’s radioactive energy, draining them of strength.  To merely subdue or commune with a former enemy, her vines can work their way into even the toughest flesh to perform a sort of advanced chemotherapy, which can further sedate, heal, or alter one’s mood as needed.

But Biollante, by nature, is not restricted to a single body and form.  As a collective entity, she can manifest multiple secondary bodies with special adaptations to whatever challenge that needs to be met.  How such distant bodies are able to coordinate their movements so well is still not quite understood, but may have something to do with a global electromagnetic signature.

The Prime body was observed confronting Godzilla during her intervention.  Much different incarnations handled the other kaiju.  As mentioned, Rodan was subdued in part by an agile flying form, resembling a hyperdeveloped wind-spore.  This form constantly shed irritating bits of fluff laden with pheromones, and though it was ultimately destroyed by Rodan, it’s effects eventually caught up to him and he discontinued his attacks on human settlements in the area.  Anguirus was likewise attacked by an aquatic, algae-like form.  It displayed even more remarkable regeneration than others, using siphon-like hydraulic pumps to maintain its form and eventually smother and encase Anguirus into submission within the cold waters, halting his rampage.  Kong, meanwhile, had to be met with a more flexible opponent in a form specializes for melee combat.  Taking on an uncanny likeness to Godzilla, this form healed and empower Kong after bring him to his senses, resulting in its’ dissolution but enabling the great primate to destroy the local invaders.

Character:  The metabolisms of all Biollante’s forms were very high in output and effective at their tasks, but were ultimately unstable long-term.  Each form wasted no time in subduing their respective kaiju opponents while destroying anything in their way.  Such powerful but short-lived episodes indicate such life events are rare for the giant florafauna.  These events may be brought about by sudden planetary stresses or distinct signals.  What few questions the Mahars responded to seemed to imply they may have implanted such a signal into Robomusume’s distress beacon as a contingency.

There has also since been much speculation as to whether Biollante had been preparing to enter such an offensive state during King Ghidorah’s invasion, which may explain why the golden dragon dealt with her very swiftly upon arriving at Skull Island.  Indeed, the Morlock invasion may have simply jumpstarted a process that had been reduced to near-stasis.  Whatever the case may be, the world has since gained a newfound respect 9and perhaps a touch of fear) for the immortal plant goddess.

Took a while for me to get this one as I wanted.  The Prime form is of course based on how she appears in her final battle with Godzilla in her debut movie.  The Spore form is loosely based on how I imagine a singular incarnation of her spores would be like, as well as the "space rose" she ascends to in the movie.  The Alga form is based on the seaweed monster from the Hanna Barbera series.  And the Melee form is based on some other fan conceptions of what she'd be like had she continued to take more after Godzilla in her movie.  Hope you may enjoy.
