Description
A while ago, I was experimenting with my own take on the classic speculative zoology scenario of the absence of a KT extinction event. The idea has never really left, and has continued to evolve. These are some basic ideas for the animals of Seiek as I continue to refine it. These were done sometime last year, so not all the ideas are 100% "canon" for the project anymore, but I figured I'd see what others think. Clockwise from top left:One: A gliding xenarthran, evolved to better avoid highly adapted arboreal predators.
Two: A largely terrestrial notosuchian native to South America. Scavenges and sometimes ambushes live prey.
Three: A hopping armadillo. This one may need some tweaking.
Four: A lightly built sauropod, part of a lineage that diversified during South America's isolation. Most members are now extinct, but these species survive due to their close symbiosis with certain co-evolved grasses. These plants produce toxins that the dinosaurs store in specialized nasal cavities, which can be "snorted" at predators as a blinding, burning irritant.
Five: A highly adapted abelisaur built for running down prey. Arms have become wing-like gyro-stalks for balance.
