Description

Without the advanced technology of the Valnaxi, PATRON forces rely primarily on numerical superiority and overwhelming firepower, combined with durability, which makes them effective on all fronts. They rarely excel at tasks, but rarely find themselves poorly-equipped or otherwise unable to perform tasks either, making them highly reputable for their reliability.

PATRON ground forces are capable of deploying some of the largest vehicles in the galaxy, and with size comes power and some very heavy weapons. As such, once deployed into a combat zone, PATRON Army forces are not as dependant on orbital fire support as other factions. Their vehicles are tough and pack decent firepower, and their infantry are somewhat sub-par but are inexpensive and come in large numbers. PATRON also has a lengthy arsenal of atmospheric aircraft to provide close air support.

However, the PATRON Navy is not as reliant on numbers as it is sheer durability. PATRON Navy ships are incredibly well-armoured on the fore hull, and almost all of their weaponry is mounted facing forward in a triangular pattern, allowing a PATRON ship to fire all of its weapons at once while presenting the enemy with its most durable armour plating and shields. However, PATRON ships are somewhat slow at manoeuvring. Additionally, should a ship be crippled to a point where it is unsalvageable, particularly noble and brave captains (and some hot-headed and egomaniacal ones) have been known to apply the Thermonuclear Ram built into the front of each capital ship. This ram is essentially a directed nuclear warhead built into the ship, and as an express-built kamikaze weapon the strategy for use is simple: Line up the target, accelerate to ramming speed and, should you hit the target, hit with enough force to trigger the nuclear detonation, destroying your ship in the process. However, the ram is designed to throw almost all of its energy foward, effectively ‘spearing’ the target, although most who have witnessed such an attack would describe it as ‘blowing a gaping hole in the ship or outright snapping it in two’.

The common Navy tactic in battle is to present the enemy with a firing line of line ships while the more nimble escorts cover the vulnerable flanks. This way, the line ships can concentrate their fire and maximize their durability without getting in each others’ way.
