Description Today's entry is a tutorial that explains how I go about drawing pretty clouds. I really like drawing clouds 'cause it's so relaxing. I don't know why I don't put clouds in all my drawings.

Post your specific questions here and I'll update the tut if necessary.

I usually work at 4800 x 7200 pixels which translates to 12 x 18 at 400 dpi. You have to use a small-sized brush when you're working at high reslutions. I find that a 70 px smudge tool is about the maximum size I can use effectively, but I usually use a 20 to 50 px size one. And you can only do short quick jabs, too-- no long strokes.

Wewt! I can do clouds now! Now all I need is, eyes, ears, noses, hair, boobs, shading, skin tones, clothing, sense of style, theme, an imagination, shine, ergonomic (or w/e) body shape, lighting, Phototshop (Have that I think), removing the strange mental block which stops me drawing human bodies like human bodies even thought I knwo whwta they look like and not just stupid and squary, a steady mouse hand, facial emotions and actual skill...

Need tutorials plz...[link]

You can still use this technique with a mouse, it's just a bit more difficult; you just gotta keep clilcking away constantly.

Cool, man. Don't be afraid to use the smudge tool to blend in some of the sunlight into the edges of the clouds nearest to the light.

transfuse In reply to Estrellada [2006-07-14 08:04:59 +0000 UTC]

Nice work. Next time you can try smudging the clouds so that their edges are crisper. You can turn up the hardness setting of the smudge tool as much as you want.

Heh I love painting clouds, especially in acryllics or oils, though indian ink can be fun, splashing water over the page to mist it out something a little hard to control, though I don't think that is the purpose of it

Clouds are one of the toughest things to do, I think. And when it comes to doing them digitally, it's that much harder. Thank you very much for the tutorial. It's appreciated.
