Description Today's entry is a tutorial that explains how I go about drawing pretty clouds. I really like drawing clouds 'cause it's so relaxing. I don't know why I don't put clouds in all my drawings.

Post your specific questions here and I'll update the tut if necessary.

0.0 you do all this with a 6x8?!?!
and my dumb arse has been waiting 'til the prices on the 8x10's come down >.<

I've been using the 6x8 for a long time now and have no trouble at all drawing anything. It seems that drawing on something larger would actually be harder if you ask me. It'd be really inconvenient to use anything larger on my cramped desk, too.

you have a very good set of points, especially with the cramped desk part, heh... i know that one all too well

this is wonderful. i'm so sick of the "how to color anime/make an anime character" etc etc tutorials. there has got to be thousands of them i swear to god.

but this, this is what people need. how to draw things from nature and how to do it right. thank you for making something different, and doing it well.

That's kind of part of the reason why I don't do many tutorials 'cause there are already plenty of them out there. =/

I can only imagine how much easier a tablet would be, but I found that changing the brush tool, and smudge tool setting to fade makes it a little better with the mouse.

Great tutorial btw.

transfuse In reply to DamnedNinja [2006-01-24 02:52:50 +0000 UTC]

You can also turn down the flow to around 5% to 12% to get better control of your paint brush.

For this technique, setting the smudge tool's Strength to around 40% is a better setting than 80% if you don't have a tablet.

yay! that was most helpful! I tried it and it turned out okay...better than my usual clouds though xD
have you made a shading tutorial?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

transfuse In reply to zorye [2006-01-24 02:13:53 +0000 UTC]

It takes some practice to get really good at using this technique.

And I haven't made a shading tutorial yet, but I eventually will.

Oh my goodness! This is a magnificent tutorial. It gives me some experimental ideas.... Maybe incorporate this technique into foamy tidal waves or something.

This is very wonderful. This is the sort of thing I need to be learning.

Thanks. I just started interning at a web design company and they got me doing layouts, wallpapers, ecards, and screensavers 8 hours a day Mon-Fri. I guess work leaked over a bit into this.
