I like to think the cosmos began with a warm glow—as if some child's mason jar shattered and set free a wave of fireflies to illuminate the universe. During dark summer nights these earthbound stars were the focus of my childhood affections. It was interesting how I could manage to grasp one and feel so giant yet curiously look up at the night sky and feel so little.
