More color practice, and once again, I'm trying a few different things. My flats have been getting a little bright lately, so I'm consciously trying to tone them back down. Comfort gave me some great advice on that, so now there's a little bit more method to my selection then there was before. I also simplified the way I do tones somewhat. Before I would mess with layer settings a lot (multiply the shadows, screen the highlights, ect.) but now I'm doing it all mostly with my color selection, which gives me a lot more control over how it all turns out. As with so many of the things I've been learning lately, it took some time to get the hang of, but once I got comfortable with it, I honestly can't remember why I ever did it any other way.

I think the greatest challenge on this one, though, was the style of the original art. I really dig Rantz's stuff, but it's a bit more stylized then I'm used to coloring. It caused some frustration at a few points, but it was also good to explore outside of my comfort zone a little bit. I still struggle with simple backgrounds, though. I never know how to fill that space.

But overall, I say this is a nice step in the right direction.
