Description In which Kid Loki has not yet mastered his poker face, but it's still enough to fool Kid Thor.

(In case it isn't clear, the four tripod horses are the original owners of Sleipnir's extra legs.)

Ohhh boy, haha, that's a pretty crazy Norse myth, actually. So, Loki got the frost giants to make a bet that they couldn't build a wall for Asgard before a certain date. If they were late, then the Asgardians didn't have to pay them for building the wall; if they were early, the frost giants got to take the goddess Freya away with them. It looked like they were going to finish the wall early, since they had the help of this amazing eight-legged stallion that was hauling stone and stuff. So Loki turned himself into an eight-legged mare, and the stallion chased him off into the woods. Without the horse, the giants were late and had to build the wall for free, but nine months later, Loki gave birth (yes for real) to a little eight-legged horse. He named the horse Sleipnir and gave it to Odin to ride.

Yeah, the stuff in my VC comics follows the movies more than the myths.

Now I'm wondering HOW one of the horses "stole" the others' legs and has functionality over them.

Poor once-four-legged horses! I can't believe I didn't get that connection until I read your note (four legs taken from four now-three-legged horses = four extra legs for the now-eight-legged Sleipnir! Math is power! )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Treacle-Miner In reply to NeriSiren [2011-11-15 15:10:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, maybe the bigger question is WHY.

NeriSiren In reply to Treacle-Miner [2011-11-15 19:41:33 +0000 UTC]

Eh, in this case, I think "Why" is just too complicated a question with no possible answer that would make sense to us humans Then again, the answer could just be, "Uh…because?"

Treacle-Miner In reply to hawthorne-cat [2011-10-07 14:34:42 +0000 UTC]

I can see that that would have eight legs, but otherwise I'm a bit confused about its relation to Sleipnir . . .

At any rate, his origin myth is a bit wackier.

Treacle-Miner In reply to VanHinck [2011-09-28 17:14:22 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what one would do with three Sleipnirs. You could have them pull one of those old-fashioned three-horse Russian sleighs.

(That would be pretty awesome, actually.)

Haha, what's funny to me is trying to picture Sleipnir before he got the extra legs. His body would be a little too long - like a horse dachshund.

Haha, I didn't really think about it until I was drawing that last panel. I guess I could have spaced the legs out evenly, but then it would look like a horse caterpillar. (Horsapillar?)

ZuviosGemini In reply to Treacle-Miner [2011-09-26 23:36:24 +0000 UTC]

Well the way you drew him is correct. He has four legs in front and four in back. So actually I think that'd make him faster.
