HISTORY & CLARIFICATION

I have always loved this episode. There is a spiritual quality, it seems, to almost anything that attempts to incorporate the philosophy and culture of the Far East -- and certainly to a work executed with the aplomb of this series entry. Its atmosphere is very twilight in tone, which is appropriate for the soul searching RODIMUS PRIME undergoes in the storyline. His wandering mind and frustration lose him the Matrix of Leadership to the Decepticons, which seems like a potential turning of the tide. But GALVATRON has clearly not learned the lesson of his prior inability to open the Matrix and thinks his electro-chemical cannon will be enhanced with the receptacle of Autobot wisdom installed in it. He fires it -- and the spirits of the ancient Autobots, including OPTIMUS PRIME, mournfully emerge to urge him to return it to its rightful place. The way he appears here is interesting -- his features are slightly transparent and his lines are something like a violet blue rather than the normal black. Initially, I tried adding a gradient fill layer in Photoshop™ atop his face, which was itself reduced to 50% opacity, but eventually went for the effect through colouring.
