Description
Mononykus olecranusNamed by A. Perle and colleagues, 1993
Diet: Insectivore and Carnivore (Prey included primarily insects as well as small animals, including lizards and small mammals)
Type: Maniraptorian (Alvarezsaur) theropod dinosaur
Size: 3 feet (1 meters) long and 10 lb.
Region: Asia (Mongolia)
Age: Late Cretaceous (72.1 to 69 million BC; Early Maastrichtian)
Enemies: Theropod dinosaurs such as the dromaesaurid Adasaurus, troodontids such as Zanabazar, and tyrannosaurids such as juvenile Tarbosaurus.
Episode: Chased by Dinosaurs - The Giant Claw
Info: A member of a very bizarre group of small bird-like theropod dinosaurs known as the alvarezsaurids that's known to have only one claw in its short, stubby arms, Mononykus was a swift, agile animal that was discovered in the Nemegt Formation in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia by a Soviet-Mongolian expedition in 1987 and was described in 1993 under the name "Mononychus", but was renamed to Mononykus later that year after it was discovered that the former name was already given to a beetle. Meaning "One Claw," Mononykus, like other members of the alvarezsauridae family (with the exception of its earlier close relative, Shuvuuia which had two vestigial fingers and one large claw), had short, stubby forelimbs with only one large claw and lacking the other two claws, but the purpose of these remains a mystery.
Note: Based on . Gave it eye shine since its believed that this dinosaur (as shown in the original series) hunt at night due to its large eyes, when it was cooler and there would have been fewer predators such as Adasaurus and Zanabazar about.
Originally I was gonna base it on a skeletal cast replica of a Mononykus at the American Museum of Natural History (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… ), until RIGHT before I posted it, I heard that it was inaccurate as the skull replica is based on those of Shuvuuia. So for that reason I re-did the mistake.

Awesome!
But it's likely Adasaurus and Zanabazar were nocturnal as well... RIP

I loved that scene where Nigel managed to catch one of these little scamps.
Also, nice reference with the scorpion in the glass.
