Description
I wanted to kill two birds with one stone. Not only does this show and explain the process behind The Hutch but I also shared many very useful tips I've picked up through my experience (mostly discovered on my own). Yes, it's long, but so is a lifetime. In this tutorial, I talk about:
There's also a short FAQ section!
Not only that, but it shows dozens of progress photos for The Hutch ! In essence, this tutorial has been undergoing plans for some months now. Now I just hope people will like it.
I would like to take this moment to remind you that the purpose of a tutorial is to be spread between people, so please do so if you found it useful and/or interesting
For those interested in learning more I am writing a book about portraiture such as this tutorial. To give me ideas and such, please see this poll and comment as you please: [link]

Thank you!!
this helped a lot!
but a quick questions, when you were talking about planes and tones, how did you get that one picture of all different colors (the one with the scale of black and white by it) does that make any since?
oh well, thanks!

Thanks! I did that rainbow version manually. You don't need to do that with your references; it's just a demonstration.

Thank you very much for the tutorial. It was very informative. I have only one suggestion for the future. It is tough reading the text. It seems that it would be much better to just have black text on white backgound. Just a suggeston. Also if it was just black and white it would be better to print.

I find black on white is too harsh and gets chopped up easily with optimisation. I didn't intend for people to print this. I'm considering publishing a book on drawing, though

I wasn't referring to printing it I was saying you can't read it. But I get your point now that you aay you are going to try to sell the info.

It's been awhile since I've tried to do any realistic shading in graphite. This was a nice refresher for the portrait I'm working on. Thanks.
