Description
I wanted to kill two birds with one stone. Not only does this show and explain the process behind The Hutch but I also shared many very useful tips I've picked up through my experience (mostly discovered on my own). Yes, it's long, but so is a lifetime. In this tutorial, I talk about:
There's also a short FAQ section!
Not only that, but it shows dozens of progress photos for The Hutch ! In essence, this tutorial has been undergoing plans for some months now. Now I just hope people will like it.
I would like to take this moment to remind you that the purpose of a tutorial is to be spread between people, so please do so if you found it useful and/or interesting
For those interested in learning more I am writing a book about portraiture such as this tutorial. To give me ideas and such, please see this poll and comment as you please: [link]

Wow! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this.
I am not in art classes and long ago finished school, so books and the internet are my only resources.
Thank you

This is, by far, the best tutorial on DeviantART for portraits
I love how you explained each part in such detail, some to the extent where some of it may not be neccesary to know all of the info on it, (In a good way! You can never have too much advice in my opinion!) where someone is able to complete an awesome picture with the rest of the tutorial.
Only problem I have with the tutorial is, well...the fact that I am completely envious of your portrait-drawing talents and your knowledge of such things, but also because the image for the tutorial is a bit blurry/pixelated. Next time you make a tutorial, I'd suggest saving it as a different file type. (Such as a .png, instead of a .jpg/.jpeg or a .bmp) It would really clear up the image, and make it slightly easier to read and understand. :]
All in all, I have learned so much just from this tutorial, and I'm 100% positive I'll be using this tutorial in the near future.

Thanks, that's very kind of you. I'm not sure if you noticed, but I'm not posting anything anymore, so you won't see tutorials from me anyway. Also, I don't think it should be any larger than 1.5mb. There are still friends of mine on dialup, and I empathise with them. Accessibility out-rules quality in this case.

the difference between using the soft, hard lead pencil and the dullness and sharpness of it, how it affects the paper and such. One would think that basic is explained in art school thoroughly, but I have never got it quite clear until I saw your tutorial.

I haven't read this completely yet, but I have faved it, because it is brilliant. The idea of using baking paper to keep the drawing and hands smudge-free is simple, but brilliant.

I suppose there is only so much you can learn on your own in a given period of time. Most of your tips and tricks I've already known through conversations we've had in the past, and even some I've implemented into my own drawings. I like sticking to my own technique most times 'cause it's easier for me to whip out and use
The areas where you were outlining the planes were familiar to me, 'cause do that to a small degree while sketching the outlines. It's sort of something you train your head to pick up. Like learning to ride a bike: it takes time to get to a point but once you achieve it you can't forget.
We also vary technically 'cause you don't like stick erasers and yet I would swear on mine. Different strokes for different folks :B
