Wow, I looked at this even though I have a tablet, and I'm so glad I did! It's hard to find decent portrait-painting tutorials written for Paint Shop Pro, everyone seems to use Photoshop. I don't like Photoshop...
This is really helpful, and the finished product is just fantastic! I'd love to be able to create pictures like this... I suppose I'd better get back to practicing! After all, practicing is the only way to improve, really.

If everything you draw doesn't count as practice then you're doing something wrong 8] Thanks!

you could always do a tutorial on how to come up with ideas for stories. or perhaps how to develope characters.

If you want a tutorial on something like that, you only need to ask. I'm more than happy to share my thoughts on those sort of things Someone also once request one on creating fictional names/words, but I'm just not sure if they fit on deviantART...

well i did just ask silly
i think a small journal can cover how to make fictional names..
for example.. i make names up from things i can see... and muddling up the letters or making new words using additional letters..
eg. chest rub + cordial = Chedib Stail, Stebbeth Irsil etcetcetc!!!!!
easy as! [betcha didnt know that was my method all along.. ps if you want those names, go for it lol]

Hmm. Maybe I could try and make one over the next couple days. And that's a great technique, lol. Works unusually well~

A program is only as good as the one who wields it

Still, it is better than paint. Which is the only computer program I use for pictures. And to that you must agree.

Well yes, but never limit a program to your experience with it.

I know, I am quite good with paint, but no matter what I do, it does not turn out, nearly as well as a descent program...Oh well, I'll stick to hand shading then...for now.

Whoa, I haven't commented on your stuff for sooo long!
Very nice tutorial! I'm soo in love with the water droplet effect you've achieved! =3
I think you're like the most generous artist I've come across, 'cause you're always teaching everyone else what you know and what you've discovered. =3

Very nice tutorial. I admire that you can keep track of what you do in such detail. Me, I just tend to paint.

Depends whether or not I'm working from a reference, really~

Helen-Baq In reply to treijim [2007-09-25 23:35:51 +0000 UTC]
so, you get lost if you aren't using a reference?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
treijim In reply to Helen-Baq [2007-09-26 22:16:36 +0000 UTC]
I mean working without a reference is when I just "tend to paint", whereas with a reference, I'm more methodical

Helen-Baq In reply to treijim [2007-09-26 23:47:10 +0000 UTC]
I see. I just get lost either way. Except, maybe, on vectors... maybe...

*folds arms behind head and puts feet up* Well this will take around 30 minutes or so, so yeah.
I always wondered what a jumper was.
And I draw things in different orders each time, depending upon which is more prominent. I like that you did throw that in, though. People should do what makes them comfortable instead of something that makes them wrack their brain for the right order. Just makes art un-fun.
Very nice, some of the parts with the hair confused me (I just think I don't understand the PSP lingo) But it's really fun watching it come together.

This is a fantastic tutorial- very detailed and easy to follow (and read- too many people use crazy font or strange colors, making it hard to see/read)
Thank you!
