I'm still a beginner in photomanipulation. I have been groping my way around by searching for tutorials to teach myself. Please forgive my maybe stupid question, why would you want to change a smoothed skin cute face to a rough and "dirty looking" one? Why would that be better? Thank you for your answer.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

photoshop-tutorials In reply to milbisous [2007-10-24 07:46:40 +0000 UTC]

It's not a stupid question at all The "rough and dirty" style is something that can be achieved without manipulation by photographers. Alot of people like the style, but I guess it's more a matter of preference. You can see the style used in fashion portraits, magazines, etc. The only examples I can think of right now is this one ([link] ), and the example with the boy in this video ([link] )

I assume it takes a bit of knowledge to get the effect without having to "cheat", which is why those of us who're not pros at photography use tuts like these Hope that answered your question.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It did answer my question, and I still do not understand why people prefer that rough look > Maybe one day, I will understand. Thanks again!
