I used this [link] I was not able to follow it exactly not all of my settings are the same as in the tutorial. I just got CS4 and it is strange to me as I am used to working with paint shop pro.

I'm still a beginner in photomanipulation. I have been groping my way around by searching for tutorials to teach myself. Please forgive my maybe stupid question, why would you want to change a smoothed skin cute face to a rough and "dirty looking" one? Why would that be better? Thank you for your answer.

It's not a stupid question at all
I assume it takes a bit of knowledge to get the effect without having to "cheat", which is why those of us who're not pros at photography use tuts like these
