Description Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!

No doubt, some people WILL disagree with me here, with including the Metalheads into this collection at all. Nevertheless, I think that these days there is a link between Goth and Metal. And most of the people who watch this collection or have faved my work seem to like metal, so it wouldn't be right to leave them out!

I think that metalheads should not be listed in the Goths section. There is enough confusion as it is! I think that the only way a metalhead should be listed in the Goth section is if they have something Gothic sigificantly incorperated with them but many of us do not.

I find myself disagreeing that metalheads are goths i personaly believe that goth, metalhead, emo, etc. are all (while quite similer) different however slightly. i also think some can be classified as gothic and a metalhead. but what this is implying all metalheads are goths which i very much disagree with. though as i said earlier they are similer. i would probably classify myself as metalhead. do i like goth music and art? yes. could you classify me also as a goth? yes. but to say every metalhead is a goth. i personaly think not.

Actually, only Rammstein, out of the bands that you listed, are considered metal (Evanescence and TDG's genres are arguable however). Rammstein even leans more towards a more industrial heavy rock-ish sound though, so they're just vaguely metal. All the 'gothic' metalheads I know of really kind of listen to gothic, doom and symphonic metal bands, like Lacuna Coil, HIM, Charon and such...:S

Geez, whatever. It's just music, anyways. I'm not telling you to not enjoy it and that you aren't a metalhead, just pointing out the genre differences really. You can ignore this comment if you'd like

Hate each other? I've never heard of that happening before. Which people have you met that have said that they hate others from the genres you listed? (I'm honestly just wondering because I have a friend who likes all of those bands except for My Chemical Romance)

This is a really interesting thought....I myself am a metalhead!! and I see goths and metalheads as two different genres.... but I think there like a brother and sister kinda relationship....in many ways metalheads and goths hate the samething, for instance I was sitting at launch and I see these emo kids walking by I say "stupid emo kids" and a kid next to me said "ya what a bunch of pussies" I look and he was one of goth kids in my school. And both genres believe that there some of the most open minded genre around...(even thow they can be assholes to people for being different, like metalheads with rapers and goths with emo's)

Also they love the samethings as well, like the style, such as wearing lots of black and anything that would set them apart from the main croud. In the end I think if you put a metalhead and goth in a room they'll be fine with each other, now put some emos or rapers in that room and you'll see the metalhead an goth ganging up on them....it's most likely the metalhead would start it.....I think were abit more agressive then goths...might be wrong lol anyway keep up the good work!!!

about your comment a month ago on trellias goth metalhead piece. i agree with what you said but trellia actually classifys emos as a type of goth. which i disagree with. clearly so do you if you say goths dislike emos. which i agree with. as well as metalheads (such as myself) hating rapers. but i just happened to see your comment after seeing both the metalheads are goths and the emos are goths and i felt the need to reply. sorry if you find this annoying and unnecessary. if not feel free to write back.

I think it doesn't matter as a goth what you listen, some listen to punk, other to metal, you even have the ones who like rock&roll (69 eyes).
And ps for the metalheads:
you have many symphonic and progressive metalbands and even powermetalbands who use the Gothic theme:
-Therion
-epica
-nightwish
-withim temptation
-sonata arctica isn't Gothic but it is famous by gothics.

and many others. -_-

It's a lot fun to read, but...
ok i know there are a lot of people who said this before but as a metalhead I have to say it again: metal isn't a part of the goth secene
Ok well and as a german metalhead I have to add that Rammstein has nothing to do with goth xD
Actually the male metalhead looks really like they do, but the girl...
However, go on, it's really amazing what you're creating here

I appreciate the long hair. I had an idiot say my long hair isn't metalheadesque and when he saw the photo of me with spiked hair on my license from when I was 16 he said that was more metalhead.

Although I am one of those metalheads that insists that there is a difference between goths and metalheads, I have to admit there are crossovers but don't EVER cross emo and metalhead, just don't.

My father introduced me to heavy metal when I was in elementary school using Iron Butterfly as the example. Now I'm in college listening to Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, White Zombie, and any other old metal I can find. I still have to get my hands on some Iron Butterfly to add to my collection. I don't like new metal or any music from later than 2000. I'll listen to any form of rock or metal (but not hairmetal) from the 90's and earlier though.

And I love the little illustrations, they are adorable representations of metalheads. The look on his face is perfect. Did you use vector to make them?

Hehe, I'm liking your goth types so far, funny and informative
However,as a metalhead who is interested in and knows quite a bit about the goth subculutre i will say this: no, metalheads are NOT goths at all. I can go more in depth but still, no. Metalheads are far far far from goths despite them overlapping at "gothic metal"

I'm a Metal-Head, and I have looked over alot of your work and while most of what you say is off or inncorrect, you do get certain key points correct.
Also, I respect the fact that you had the decency to say you were stereo-typing these genres instead of just vocating your oppinion and acting like it was a fact.

porcelain-moon [2010-08-14 08:41:29 +0000 UTC]

I said this earlier in a reply to someone's comment but I guess I could say it again. Haha.

I like this type especially. Many people on both ends of the elitist spectrum (both metal and goth) argue of having no ties with either side. But, most average members of either subculture (that don't take themselves too seriously) would know this is far from the truth.

I've met plenty of goths (meaning those who have spent a large amount of time at goth clubs/events/gatherings) that DO like metal (and quite a bit of it, I'd say). Even at Wave Gotik Treffen you'll see bands such as Virgin Black listed alongside with other bands such as Alien Sex Fiend, Diary of Dreams, Demented Are Go, and VNV Nation. You'll find that many Goths today have very extensive taste in music (even if all of their music is considered "acceptable" within the scene). This can be primarily related back to the adoptive nature of the goth subculture.

Even those hailed as the "pioneers" of the goth subculture vehemently argued against being associated with "goth". Yet, 30 years later you've got black clad freaks everywhere these days listening to their music. The same goes for Industrial, EBM, Dark Cabaret, and Deathrock. All those genres/scenes started out as entirely separate entities and were later adopted by the black clad masses. Later on to be blended in with and associated with the goth subculture. Like it or not, this IS happening with certain sub-genres of metal.

I don't understand why any logical thought would have METAL included as PART of Gothic culture, when heavy metal, along with its various forms and styles, far predates the onset of "Goth."
As far as I can tell (also backed by some of these posts) Goth is a darker, brooding spinoff of Punk more than anything.
Heavy Metal came before punk. Therefore, Metal cannot be a sub-ANYTHING of something that it predates. That is, in a manner of speaking, akin to saying that Dinosaurs are a member of the Bird family, when, though doubtlessly related, you are referring to the RESULT as superior to the ORIGIN.
As much as I hate to admit it, yes, style-wise mostly, the two do overlap. But they are far spaced ideologically as well as musically, and since Metal is, above all, a MUSIC style, they cannot be referred to as anything more than spinoffs of each other, often confused for one another by an ignorant public.
