Description
Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!No doubt, some people WILL disagree with me here, with including the Metalheads into this collection at all. Nevertheless, I think that these days there is a link between Goth and Metal. And most of the people who watch this collection or have faved my work seem to like metal, so it wouldn't be right to leave them out!

Heh. I have a good friend who, though not a goth, fits this description to a T. In fact, the dude example looks a lot like her boyfriend. x3
Nightwish and Within Temptation = Happy Pirate.

Agreeable but debateable as you stated. Good job!
Just a little info for ya though; as I can only speak for the metal side of the argument, Metalheads are more about beating people up, thrashing about, and breaking stuff. The two get confuesed alot, but considerthis. A true Male Metalhead wouldnt be caught dead in makeup or fishnets. This isn't seriouse, just observation from my many experiances in Concert attending.

I don't have any clothes that would fall under a 'metal' or 'goth' look(ain't got the money), tho I do listen to a lotta metal bands(mostly of the heavy/power metal variety(and not just fantasy/cliche stuff either, I like the proggier side as well)) and ones that have gothic influence in them, such as Nightwish, Cradle of Filth, Tiamat, etc. I'm also starting to get into the more 'ure' goth acts as well...
I guess I shouldn't be called goth tho because I may not share the same ideologies as those w/in the subculture(not sure tho), tho I'm def. a metal head through and through. Gonna look at more of these, they're entertaining!

Well, I've seen all of your pictures of variations of goth- as you said, we as nonconformists tend to be individually unique. For that reason, I don't necessarily fit cleanly into any one part of this multi-faceted spectrum- but that metalhead guy/the industrial guy/and some others have traits that I share with them. I have a fondness for printed shirts, usually with either the Scythman on them or some other skeletal/demonic entity, and I like to wear fatigues- they are insanely durable. I also have 60 (120 centimeters) inches of chains attachted to my wallet in 2 30 inch (75 centimeters) loops.

The problem is that both genres got really extense, so extense that some sub genres got mixed, even same metal fans cannot be agree on what's metal and what's not
Is usual to hear a black metal debating with a heavy oldschool metal fan (part of my fav taste) and progressive metal, and u can hear them all complaining about the power metal (not every, just the medievalish or too fantastictalemagicalflyinghorseholyemera lswordinthefloatingcastle thing)

I kinda agree with you but then again i kinda disagree. Sure there are similarities but then again the differences are astounding. There are ALOT of metal bands that reference god in a good light whereas you don't see many Goths praising god, but meh, opinions vary.
As a metalhead i kinda get pissed when people call me Goth, cause i'm not Goth, just cause i have similarities to them doesn't mean that i'd classify myself as one.

Metal is a lot deeper than yer making it seem over here. Especially with the whole collar thing you've made the guy wear... the collar usually goes hand in hand with the posers... unless its Black Metal which is a completely different topic altogether...
I doubt that both cultures will cross over eventually because of so many strongly conflicting ideologies... one thing is that if you call a Metalhead a Goth he/she would probably either laugh it off or just raise an eyebrow whereas a Goth is more likely to throw a silent fit if you call him/ her a Metalhead...
Anyways just my two cents... I think this image is a little... hmmm how do I put this... "uninformed"?
It would actually make more sense if you put Metalhead under Punk stereotype rather than Goth as a majority of Metal is spawned from the genre... or even Hard Rock a la' ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rush and whatnot...
Anyways my rant here hardly matters... you got yer 500+ favs and congrats on that yo I just seem to see a glaring fault in this whole thing as I take my Metal far to seriously but thats just my problem

porcelain-moon In reply to MetallumJazz [2010-08-14 08:07:32 +0000 UTC]
I guess it all depends on who you talk to. Most people I know that others would identify as "goths" couldn't be bothered with labels either way. Even if they're a walking talking candidate for one. But, that can be said of 99% of most members of some sort of "alternative" subculture.
In my experience a lot of goths like a large mixture of music including metal. Generally speaking, as long as it's "dark" goths will have a higher chance of being interested in it. I have a friend who likes almost every genre of metal as well as your typical swirly floaty Dead Can Dance type stuff. She's not the only one either. I know plenty of others who hang out in the goth scene that like metal as well. I know a guy in my town who helps run a goth club that is also in a death metal band.
Goth has always been a subculture that has had a habit of adopting outside influences and making it their own. Even, what people consider, trad goth bands were vehemently against being associated with the subculture. Yet, 20 something years later they're considered archetypes for ookie spooky people everywhere.

This made me laugh, we just had a little event at school yesterday and we should dress as stereotypes. I chose metal and tried to be as caricatural as I could (my long hair helped quite a lot)
I was almost dressed as the guy you drew, with pretty much the same attitude and a crappy cannibal corpse shirt. XD

you're wrong. Metal was around a few years before than Punk, Metal-1969, Punk-1975 just to clear things up, unless you're tyalking about thrash then yeah, thrash came from punk

even though there both very separate, that should mean they can't be together. I for one love both goth and metal, and behave and dress in both fashions. It's basically taking two dark things and somehow making them darker. Love your stuff.

I relate to the first paragraph, as that is something I need to explain to many people who believe that I'm goth. I consider the classification to be based more on musical interests and behavior; While I've never personally met a goth whos as inyourfacebeatyoutoafuckingpuddle as I and my group of metal heads are, Im sure some people must get confused and call themselves goth or metalhead when they arent, then that just leads to more confusion etc. etc.
