Description Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!

Gothabilly is one of the styles I know least about, and I think it shows here. Hmmm. Ah well, I did enjoy drawing them.

Great examples are Zombie Ghost Train, Demented Are Go, The Ghastly Ones and in some part, Nekromantix.

I actually really love this style! The Cramps/Elvis/Vince Ray and the Boneshakers/cherries/tat sleeves/polka dots/bumper bangs/Bettie Page/surf movies/lurid old horror anthology comics/creepshow/MST3K...all that good stuff.

I haven't logged into DA in forever, but I had to jump in. "A rare and exoctic breed of goth." Maybe in Europe, but I live in San Diego (Southern) California, and Gothabilly isn't rare here, it's probably the most popular Goth subculture you'll find in this area. I don't often spot most kinds of Goths, but if you go to any large public event, especially music festivals, and there will always be groups of Gothabillies. I know you made this a few years ago, but it's been this way for some years. I really can't overstate how huge this aesthetic is here, you'll even find distinctly Gothabilly accouterments in very mainstream stores. As someone else pointed out, the subculture is also big in Las Vegas.

I think models such as Masuimi Max, Lady Morgana, Doris Mayday, Dita von Teese, Bettie Page and the like have made this culture big in that area, particularly Masumi Max and her ilk.

hahahaha!! I saw your work some time ago, but Goth-a-billy was sadly missing from the list I found. Sad; because I felt left out. If you really wanna know more about this style, drop me a line.

Psychobilly and Gothabilly are not far apart, but are defined in their own ways.

Another band you could (I say could, because it's only a loose fit at best but doesn't fit anywhere else, really) include within this subgenre is Lee Press-On and the Nails. the inevitable and natural experimental style of music has brought us... Goth Swing. I kid you not. Visually, they're somewhere between Gothabilly and Corporate Goth, severe dark suits with a 50s flair. The music is, as mentioned, swing as opposed to rock-and-roll, but the upbeat tempo fits in well with the 50s era rock, a la early Elvis and other ensemble rock bands. With a Goth twist, of course.

Now I really wish that I knew about this side of the Goth spectrum when I was a kid:

A dark take on Rockabilly culture

Colorful, old school tattoos (which I've loved my entire life)

Dark yet energetic and tounge-in-cheek....

I love it!

Actually, rockabilly is more like country music mixed with punk, and psychobilly is '50s music mixed with punk. You can tell if you check out some psychobilly bands like The Cramps or Nekromantix, they make a lot of references to B-Movies and other common '50s fads.

Sorry, that's one of my favorite subcultures. XD

Y'know...state-side you can't really tell the difference between modern rockabilly, psychobilly, and gothabilly. They all tend to have skulls, roses, polka dots, and black all mixed into one (maybe the psychobilly and gothabilly kids have coffins and spiderwebs, but that's about it.) You can note the few punkabilly kids since they tend to be "punkier" than the other groups, but all the same. there are only some subtle differences between all of them. Myself, I have a hard time calling myself gothabilly, but not "gothic" anything else (i.e. hippie goth, ega, victorian goth...). They all kinda look the same and it omes down to whatever tunes they're listening to or if they smoke cowboy-killers, camels, or (my fave) djarum blacks (I think blacks are the only thing that makes me gothabilly XD).

sorry for the rant love, just haven't chitchatted in a while.
