Description Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!

One of my favourite looks, thanks to the time I spent in Harajuku. Apart from the Lolita, it was really difficult to think up a typical "style" for Visual Kei - the movement's very eclectic.

As with all my work, please DON'T steal this! If you want to use it for whatever purposes, email me and ask me first.

Hey if it wasn't for the gothic culture, we wouldn't have awesome and spooky looking anime shows like black blood brothers, helsing, vampire knight, soul eater, black butler, death note, Tokyo ghoul, bleach and school of the dead, leave the Japanese goths alone

sorry, but this is poorly researched. Only the first sentence is really right, as in that what we foreigners call J-Goth has nothing to do with Goth. Japan actually has a goth scene, but it is just an underground thing, that gets no attention by media. Those goths look exactly like the ones we have everywhere else and most of them would laugh at you for comparing them to Cosplayers or Visual kei.

Visual kei has absolutely nothing to do with Goth. Visual kei is not even a genre, but an umbrella term for bands for who styling is as important as making music. Because of that everything can be "Visual kei", from Metal bands to cheesy 0815 pop. The music does in fact not matter at all whether a band is Visual kei or not. It's true that early VK derived influence from Glam, Metal, Hradrock, Punk, Pop or New Wave, but most bands don't play this genres straight. And since the mid 00s VK tends to borrow elements from Dubstep, Techno, Metalcore and Nu Metal as well.

Nobody really considers VK to be a form of gothic or goth at all, except a bunch of fashion and music industry people who want to put the gothic label on everything. The reason I am saying this is not because I am such a mean elitist, but because this assumption that VK is goth, harms Japan's local scene. Most foreigners have never heard of actual Japanese Goth bands, such as Madame Edwarda, G-Schmitt, Auto Mod, 13th Moon or Gille's Love and that's a shame.

I know that not all of the information in this is not correct, but then again, it does say "Goth [stereo] type" for a reason (at least, I believe so). Your style of drawing the characters is cute still.

Actually lolita doesnΒ΄t really have anything to do with French maids except a FEW dresses maybe, but those mostly arenΒ΄t considered lolita by the lolita community. In fact that outfit in the drawing would be shunned by everyone in the lolita community.
Gothic lolita is more like this: [link]
and I think it's more 'goth' than some of the other stereotypes in the series. I think the problem lies a bit with mashing all those styles under "j-goth"

Still love the series though, but felt the need to respond to this anyway haha xD
Keep up the good work! :3

First I'd like to start off by saying I love your goth stereo types. But this one gets me. I dress in Lolita. But I would like to note, Gothic Lolita is not the only Lolita style, it is mearly a substyle. Lolita has many styles just like Goth, each with their own elements of the style. I'd just like to make clear that Gothic Lolita, while popular, is quickly falling to the new rising style and more prominent style, Sweet Lolita. Lolita's prefer that the Gothic be dropped unless the outfit is specifically Gothic. A common mistake by many unaware of the complex ins and outs of the fashion. So I would not consider Lolita as part of Gothic subculture. :3 As most of the other styles are as far from goth as you can get. The most popular now adays are Sweet, Classic, and Gothic. But there is also, Mori, Deco, Kuro, Shiro, Pirate, Sailor, Aristocrat, Dandy/Ouji/Kodona/Prince, and many other smaller less popular styles. Just thought I'd explain that a bit. :3

"Cheesy Euro-pop"? XD!!! Well the Gackt Era, perhaps. The KLAHA era, on the other hand...Malice Mizer is pretty impressive. As soon as Gackt left they got really...well take a look yourself. SERIOUSLY. NOT THE SAME BAND YOU ONCE KNEW. NOT AN ASPECT.

I can't say i agree that people enter this scene via anime or whatever. With my experiences, people who've gotten into this are usually the ones leaning toward goth before finding their style. Yeah, they usually find the specific scene through an interest in japan, but it feels wrong to say that without that, they wouldn't be dressing goth.
Maybe that's not what you meant though this series is still rad aha

I'm okay with the so called "J goths", horewer, I think they entirely miss the point of being goth. I've seen only a couple of true J-goth rock bands, the rest are jokes (seriously ppl, how can Dir en Grey count as Goth? They're friggin metal!)

J-goth gigs are like fashion shows: the music is only there to distract the audience while they look at crazy costumes.

But in all honesty, if they dress in Lolita or other J-fashions, they're probably anime/manga fans.
And those who go to such lengths might just as well be weeaboos.
