Description
The second lil' Jessica in a series of three I'm working on in my limited free time. Celebrating 30 years of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".These are great fun and help me stay sane sculpting so many little faces all the time for work.
The piano and little frame for the Roger picture were dollhouse pieces I got off ebay. Jessica was sculpted in wax and cast in resin. The final piece was painted in acrylic and glitter was used to give her dress the right sparkle.
Next I'll alter the little sculpt into a "Trail Mix-Up" park ranger version.

This is so fabulous. I suggested her for a DD, more people need to see this, and sculptors need more recognition.Β

Thank you much! She's a fun character to sculpt, I'd love to be part of an official statue of her some day that everyone can own. A friend of mine I work with was trying to make an official line of Disney pieces, but licensing is complicated, particularly with big companies.

Awesome! She's a terrific character and great piece of animation history.Something we would never see done today. It's actually hard to imagine Disney EVER greenlit this character, even in '88. Such a great movie.Β

My Daddy pointed out that, in that same period, Disney made Roger Rabbit, Little Mermaid, and a stripper movie called Blaze, all of which featured voluptuous redheads.Β Someone at Disney really liked that style!

Thank you so much! She's a lot of fun to work on. I need to keep making little cartoon characters, I really enjoy it, and it helps lift the stress of making intricate portraits. You're right, glitter is not something I would normally enjoy. I used some glitter glue from the craft store, and it worked amazingly well. I could actually paint it on, and it just took some patience to get good coverage. The glue dried fairly quickly, and clear, and it really holds the glitter on nicely.... No mess, and a fun result....The miracles of the 21st century!

Oh you were smart not to use the "mod potch and dump a bunch of lose glitter on it" method :') I have Jessica from the Disneyland store and sheΒ΄s not nearly as nice looking as yours (and you canΒ΄t touch her without getting glitter all over your hands..). You did an especially good job with that extreme sytlization, i mean just look at those shoes! Crazy good

TrevorGrove In reply to CadaverCrafts [2018-09-04 19:39:00 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah, I thought that was how I was going to have to do it, but then I found this little bottle of glitter glue and was shocked how good it actually was. highly recommended if you ever have a project that needs some glitter!
Yeah, Jessica products tend to be a bit disappointing. There are a few really nice ones, though. I'm sorry the Disneyland product has glitter falling off. I don't know how they apply that stuff in the factories, but they need an additional clearcoat on top to hold it all on.
The stylization of her is the most fun aspect....ridiculous proportions...Pure cartoon. She can hardly stand on those tiny feet.

I'll absolutely have to remember that thank you, glitter is fun but so terribly messy. And i was honestly surprised they even had anything-Jessica in the shop considering she's... a little special in her design It's fine for a mass produced low price figure but of course it doesn't compare, i just noticed you can even see your Jessica's garter or whatever thats called! Impressive detail

TrevorGrove In reply to CadaverCrafts [2018-09-04 20:33:42 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!Β I thought it would be fun to show the garter. There is only one scene in the film where she has them, and they disappear any other time...But that's another example of the fun of cartoon logic!
It is surprising Disney still markets this character. Refreshing in the overly sensitive nonsense world we're in now.
I'd love to see what you'd apply the glitter to. This is the brand I used: www.joann.com/on/demandware.stβ¦
