Description

My third and final little version of Jessica Rabbit. These were such fun to work on, I just kept rolling into the next version of the sculpt as I finished the last. I love the animated Roger Rabbit shorts, and always wished there had been more.

Remember, only you can prevent forest fires....and ALWAYS bring your high heels when you go out hiking.

Sculpted in wax, cast into resin and painted in acrylic. More photos here: www.deviantart.com/trevorgrove…

What kind of primer are you using? I usually go with Aztec. Do you find sometimes smooth surfaces for cartoon characters need a bit of post sanding for 'micro scratches' for better adhesion? I usually use a 340-400 grit.
Painting broad, smooth, glossy surfaces, always makes me nervous.

(And remember to clear an area of at least ten feet in diameter.Β  Only you can prevent forest fires. Β )

You know, my first real experiences trying to do super smooth characters was a "Breaking Bad" cartoon project my brother and I embarked on years back. I about went crazy sanding and priming literally hundreds of parts (At the time I just used Krylon) and then sanding again to make sure everything was smooth on multiple copies of the sculptures....It was rough and messy.

Now what I do is spray the sculpture with an acrylic matte clear coat, and after that dries I hit it with some Testor's Dullcote to give it some tooth. It's a life saver! Now I can just sand the piece ONCE! WHEW..... I've been considering making a limited run of each of these tiny Jessicas, so it's more appealing to think I can get by only having to sand things once on each copy.

When I start painting, though, I embrace some brush strokes showing up. I paint everything with very thin coats by small brush. If anything builds up too much I sand it down, but mostly I like for that hand-made quality to show in the final work. That's not something most people want, I guess, but I'm resistant to "perfection"... When looking close at things, I LOVE to see the process.

Thanks for the tip about Aztec, I'm going to look into that brand.

Way cool. Now it's Disney's turn to make another short for subject matter

Haha! I like that idea! I already miss not working on another little sculpt of her... Such fun.

Thanks, again!

A bit flirtatious for a children's cartoon character, huh?

Will this come to sale at sideshow?

Thanks for asking! This is just a project I did on my own. I wish a company would make a new statue series of her, I'd love to be part of it.
