Description
"What is it like?"You ask me, my dear
"Will there be fairies...? Or things to fear?"
"For fairies sake I'd say you better come with me,
so soon you'll see !"
Now up and down it goes and round
Round and round and round !
- Blind Guardian "Fly"
While this is not an actual depiction of "Wendy" from James Matthew BarrieΒ΄s "Peter Pan", it is still DEFINITELY inspired by that story!
Actually, this started out purely as a "just for fun"-playing-around session with a photo of (Yes, its her! The original photo i used here was taken by , used with friendly permission), it somehow started to... well, snowball itself! Somehow, the photo of reminded me of her flying (even though she is just jumping in the original photo).
Now, and seeing as her and me recently talked about Peter Pan and related subjects, i thought it was nice to try, if i can somehow make her "fly" by the powers of "wonderful thoughts and imaginations", towards "the second one to the right and then then straight on until morning light"
I figured she might like that idea.
Initially, i only wanted to try out to add a glow to her... but then... Well, many of you know that feeling, when you were just plain playing around with something, and then there is this "magic moment", when youve passed a sorta "point of no return" and just CANNOT STOP anymore until its FINISHED and completely get carried away with what youre doing...
Well, thats just what happened here.
Now, when this one was finished, it was WAY past midnight.
And i looked at the Windows clock... and into my calendar...
and noticed:
Its valentines day!
And yeah... the thoughtprocess was somewhat like this:
PhotoManip of p-i-c flying...
Valentines Day...
Photomanip of p-ic flying...
Valentines Day...
(yeah, i am kinda SLOW...)
Now, anyways, it SOMEWHEN made "click" in my head and decided to not just dedicate this to my dear and close friend (after all: i have used her photo!), but even make this a very special and unique VALENTINES DAYs- CARD for her!
Oh, and actually, i didnt even mean to upload this to dA, to keep this a special gift for a special friend, on V-Day, but she encouraged me to do so, and thus i did
So... well, she already got her own, FULL RES Version of this piece, with a handwritten dedication from me, to her, but thats HERS to keep, and i wouldnt anyone else but her to have the Version with the Signature and dedication, so i simply removed it for this upload. So, shes the only one having the version with the dedication (besides me)
So...
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, dear !!!
Thanks for being such a great friend, thanks for spending so much time with me, and even more thanks for supporting me so much and encouraging me to keep going
But... most importantly:
Thanks for being the person that you are
Lotsa hugz and a nice warm cuddle,
love, TRiG
(sidenote: besides the photo of , which took and allowed me to use, the other resources used are from my private stock collection)

Hey, no, PLEASE don't take it down, it's amazing, honestly. You've made my crappy picture look awesome. It's just Lucy being an idiot and NOT TELLING people things. I honestly don't mind people using my photos (in fact I'm surprised that anyone would want to) I just would like people to TELL ME, that's all.

Yeah, true...
If you look through my gallery, you can see, that i ALWAYS give credit when using stock imagery (for example) and always ask for EXPLICIT PERMISSION before i release something as a print.
In this case, i just didnt KNOW that it was yours, and i will edit the credits accordingly, of course.
If i had known from the start that it was yours, i had asked you before and of course given proper credit right away.
On the other hand, just to put this clear:
Lucy didnt know i was going to do something with that photo. Actually, i didnt even know myself, haha.

Well, i saw that image she did ins chool, too, and love it!
But here, i extracted her myself
And thank you for your kind comment and the fav as well Highly appreciated, as per usual ^_^
Most effort went into the background...
The BG is composited together of... uhm... 3 or 4 different images / photos...

ah no probs
yeah it looks really confusing to try to do. You obviously put a lot of work into it

Thanks...
See... This entire "extracting things / persons" from a background thingy can really be ... elaborative, haha!
Especially when it comes to hair, fur, semi-transparent objects and such...
Here, it was rather easy, but sometimes it can really be a pain in the... Arm XD
While there might be a few tricks and ideas to try, there is no "universal receipt" for these kinda thing... you have to work on an per-image basis with that entire extraction things.

yeah i always use the magnetic lasso tool when i have to remove part of an image it helps alot then i edit the remaining wee bits
i had to use photoshop for my last art project so i was digitally adding tattoos and airbrushing nd stuff it took me a ridiculous amount of time something like 18 hours lol
yeah

TRiGGER80 In reply to Rashley [2009-02-15 19:07:29 +0000 UTC]
Ugh... Magnetic Lasso... personally, to me this is a "no go" tool... it just doesnt do that great of a job, since its merely contrast-based... And it doesnt allow semitransparency...
the Pen-Tool gives much much more control. I use it to sort of draw my selection around the object and then apply that to a layer mask, so i can work nondestructive and just "paint back in" the stuffs that i might have accidentally erased or paint out stuffs i accidentally selected... Can always go back and forth between the results and of course the ability to apply any sorts of filters (gaussian blur, etc...) to the layer mask helps a lot.
I sometimes use the freehand-lasso (i am a tablet user), iΒ΄d prefer that to the magetic one anytime...
Magic Wand... well... lets just skip over that, haha, it doesnt deserve its name, and only does occasionally a good job for some simple stuffs...
Oh, QuickMask Mode is a cool way, too, where you can simply PAINT your selection using conventional drawing / painting tools and all sorts of gradients or whatnot... (hmm... i think, its only available in Photoshop CS or above...)
hm, nifty little hint:
If you have your subject on a solid-colored background (eg Sky, greenscreen, etc...), i for my part always go into the RGB Channelspallete, choose the one with the most contrast, duplicate it and increasing the contrast, crushing the blacks and white, and blurring that a little to create a matte / alpha channel for the image Of course, still some refining needed, but really quic and efficient...
Oh, and of course there is still "image => Calculations" with which you can do something similar, and there are 3rd party plug ins that help a lot, and BLAH BLAH BLAH...
LOL, one could write full BOOKS alone and extraction / masking / matting in Photoshop, haha...

hehe
sounds like u could
its handy if i forget how to do something cuz wit ps elements 7 theres a guide bit that shows you the tools u need to get a certain effect i inda use that a lot sometimes lol or i find experimenting is brill lol

TRiGGER80 In reply to Rashley [2009-02-15 22:14:48 +0000 UTC]
Experimenting is bril in ANY media!
I do a lot of different stuff, but most of it doesnt get posted...
Actually, i only "sidetracked" into Photoshop.
Actually, i originate from 3D Graphics !
And nowadays, i do a lot of videostuff, too...
(using mainly Adobe After Effects )
So, yeah, i experiment a lot...
Graphics (including the 3D and 2D stuff as well as videostuff and anything related) and music are probably the two most "consistent" things in my life... at least, i have been told, that these things would run through my life like a red line O_o
Should do more 3D again... i neglected that quite a bit...

Well... i just noticed:
tis not true... its not just the devBOX which is 3D...
That "time"-button thingy is, too, as well as the image of the Audi and the ones of the Deep Space Nine - Space Statiom (which i didnt model myself, but shaded, lit and rendered)... also, in my "scraps" section, you can find some AGE-OLD (+8 yrs !) stuff i did in 3D... And if you ask me, i might even show you some WorkInProgress stuff or other older 3D stuffs on MSN

Thank you ever so much for such a sweet comment Happy, you enjoy it
I like how it turned out, too.
Most effort went into the background, though.
lol, when i had the "flying lucy" and the energy-swirl done, i was like:
"fuck, i need a background O_o " XD
Well, it wasn too easy to find / make a ncie suitable background that doesnt draw too much attention away from the girl. But i guess that turned out rather lucky with this background, which i composed together out of ...uhm... 3 - 4 more or less altered images from my own stock collection
π: 0 β©: 1
SweetYuya In reply to TRiGGER80 [2009-02-14 22:40:57 +0000 UTC]
My pleasure!
Oh yeah? The background was well done, it's a great view too. Though they look nothing alike, it reminded me of flying into Las Vegas at night. (I love flying in at night, the lights are always so beautiful) The moon and stars are gorgeous too.
hehe I guess you did! It's very well put together!
π: 0 β©: 1
TRiGGER80 In reply to SweetYuya [2009-02-21 18:58:59 +0000 UTC]
Lol, its funny, how you mention the moon xD
Its one of the only things i didnt edit, besides pushing it up a little in the image
And the stars come from a different image than the moon, the third image is the clouds, and finally, the lowest layer is the sky over the lit-up-cityscape
All in all not tough to do, just blendingmodes and some poking and prodding to get things into the right place

SweetYuya In reply to TRiGGER80 [2009-02-22 19:02:24 +0000 UTC]
I certainly couldn't do it. It takes knowledge and skill m'dear. ^^ I have neither of those, so props to you for creating such a lovely piece.

Thank you very much
I am rather surprised about the outcome myself, especially since i was somehow... "only playing" in PS with that photo, but somehow, it got more.. and later, haha...
The background, btw, is a Composit of 3 or 4 different images O_o
And yeah: i was going for the blue
I love blues (and that doesnt go just for the music), especially cooler blues...
I use them a lot.
And somehow... the blue just "does the trick" for me, when i put it into context with "flying", "night", "magic" and all that... at least in this image, haha!
Thanks for yer comment, my friend, and a happeh V-Day to you, too

Yeah... Peter Pan teches us that we should always give the "child within us" a little room, and never grow up TOO much... Otherwise, all imagination dies...
And i like cool and muted blues a lot, but iceblues are sure cool, too!
(lol: "ICEblues are COOL" >_< )
