PWND!!!!
(dammit, no "!" allowed in the Deviation-Title)
Haha, nudder last-minute-contest-entry xD
Okay, so... YES. This builds up on the "chess = black VS white = Good VS Evil" Idea, but with a spin of humor to it and a little wordplay: The PAWN PWNS the Rook xD
So, yeah. Probably not the "technically best possible"-render, but i think it turned out okay, especially since this is a "last minute" thing, haha!
Hope yΒ΄all like it
Again, thanks for all the feedback, , you can delete the 65697415151 WiP-Files now xD
For the Techies:
Maya, Mental Ray, post in Photoshop assembling the render passes and adding a vignette and DoF, you know the deal xD

This picture was stolen and sold through a site called Art4Love/MarkYourSpot. Both sites are now down, but you can seen a screen shot including your piece here [link] Many artists from DeviantArt have been victims of this thief, so they are banding together in a lawsuit. For more information please read this [link] I am not familiar with your gallery in it's entirety so there may be other images of yours in those screen shots.

Hello, Little dead Girl.
First and foremost, i want to say THANK YOU!!!! So much for bringing this to my attention,
and also, an even BIGGER Thank you for bringing up the time and Effort to collect all these screenshots of what was going on, so people can check out whether them or their friends have been betrayed in this manner.
I think, i speak for the entire community when i say: "Thank you so much for all the effort, we really appreciate it".
I have heard about this before, through various news articles, but i had never thought that i would find myself among the victims...
I am really kinda shocked... and i will probably put up a journal about this, linking them (with your permission) to your screenshot gallery, so they can see for themselves whether their work was stolen, too, or not.
Sadly, i have to say, that the link about the victims banding together to form a lawsuit didnt work - It just told me that it 404Β΄ed.
So i dont really know whats going on about that =/
Also, i am really confused as to how to proceed... for one, i dont know how this works internationally (i am from Europe, Germany to precise) and my financial situation would probably not allow for a lawsuit... But i have to get information about that, especially regarding the aforementioned "banding lawsuit".
Oh, and there are more images from my gallery on those screenshots.
Counting the one you commented on right here, i found a total of three images so far.
this one here, where you posted the comment, this one: [link] and this one: [link]
I hope, i wont find any more than these three...
However, i will have to see on how to proceed...
Would you mind trying to relink me to the news article / journal about this banding lawsuit? Maybe it works this time, and i can copy-paste it into my journal.
Again... Thank you for your kind effort and good attention and intentions. Its people like you, that keep this community alive.
Thanks.
With friendly greetings from Germany,
TRiGGER80 aka Sascha.

I didn't actually put together those screen shots, I just went through every page and looked for images that I recognized. When I began to notice many images from the Wacom contest that was held a while back I then went through many of those entries to look for stolen images. This is how I found yours. But I DO know that the gallery can be reposted for the purposes of informing other artists about possible theft.
You can find some information about the possible class action lawsuit here [link] Many artists cannot afford to take legal action on their own, which is why the class action would really be beneficial. I am not quite sure how it will work with victims in so many different countries. I would definitely contact Alexiuss. He is super nice and really wants to work with everyone involved some justice. And I have some hope, considering there are images in the gallery that belong to big companies like Corel and DC comics, so hopefully something good will come of all of this.
Here is another site that another DeviantArtist made showing each of the stolen pieces individually [link]
I hope that all goes well.
LDG aka Katie ^_^

Haha, thank you, still!
And you are right.
Each time i am playing chess (i suck!) or watch someone play it, i have to think about the fact, that Chess, in a way, is a really cruel game xD I mean, essentially, its a war game, that has the PAWNS in its frontline, protecting the monarch, and they also tend to DIE first xD Sacrificed for the reign of their king. Odd way to look at it (and i do so with a wink, kinda), but in a way... xD

This is funny, actually:
The german word for "sweeping" is "kehren" (in its baseform).
So: Kehren, Kero, kehren! ("sweeping, kero, sweeping!")

MarchieHarrigan In reply to TRiGGER80 [2010-10-07 03:47:56 +0000 UTC]
I did not know this. XD I only really knew that Keroro, being the main character of Sgt Frog, was of course the first to enter the Hinata family household. Of course the original reason for Keroro and his platoon coming to Earth was to invade, but it's a comedy so they get sidetracked in the most hilarious of ways. Keroro ends up living with the Hinata family and Natsumi, despising him, makes him do a bunch of chores and stuff. In his free time, he's more interested in Gundam models than actually attempting to conquer Earth. XD
And of course the name Keroro comes from the fact that in Japan, a frog's croak is percieved as sounding like 'kero kero.' The other frogs have names pertaining to other things. For instance, Kururu refers to the Japanese term 'kuru kuru' which means 'round and round.' This is likely a reference to his swirly glasses.

That, my friend, is very informative!
And maybe i should check out Sgt Frogm because it sounds cool.
If it wouldnt be older, then i would say that it reminds of "coop vs kat", lol.
And thanks for the explanations there I like languages
And yeah, a lot of times, the japanese word is derived from the way something, an action or an animal, sounds.
(no, you do NOT want to know where i first got that info xD)

Yes, Sgt Frog is AMAZING. XD The manga started around 1999(even bringing Angol Mois who was predicted to destroy the world towards the end of the century, but it turns out Keroro and Agol Mois are very close and he stops her). The anime is very different and started in 2004, but was only recently dubbed to English in 2009, so you can imagine I only recently got into it. XD
I bet you can already guess who my favorite character is by this point though.

Well, it definitely sounds cool.
I mean, over here, with anime is such a thing...
The ENGLISH dubs sometimes turn out bad, but mind you:
GERMAN (!) Dubs are based on the ENGLISH Dubs xD
Same goes for eventual subtitles xD
And yeah, i kind of GET the idea about ur fav char

English dubs can be pretty bad. Though I notice Funimation pulls of some pretty good ones. Fullmetal Alchemist being a prime example. XP

Well, as you probably noticed: While i do like Anime, i am not really something like "INTO IT", haha. I enjoy it, yes, my fav probably being Ghost In The Shell, but i wouldnt call myself a FanBoy or something xD
Meaning, i dont really know FMA. Ive heard about it, but i dont know it, lol.
And about dubs: Yeah, German Dubs can be pretty bad, sometimes, even if its NOT anime xD
π: 0 β©: 1
MarchieHarrigan In reply to TRiGGER80 [2010-10-07 21:54:31 +0000 UTC]
A lot of dubs everywhere are bad though, it seems. DX
Sometimes I wonder how much effort really goes into some of them. I recall seeing the English Higurashi dub a while back. The anime itself was really, really popular. A lot of fans were making fansubs and fandubs. There finally comes an official dub and... Well you're better off watching a fandub....
π: 0 β©: 1
TRiGGER80 In reply to MarchieHarrigan [2010-10-07 21:57:29 +0000 UTC]
Yeah it goes like that with a lot of things, not just dubs =/
And well, i guess, about 90% of all this has to do with how much (or how little) the guys n gals that write the dubs are (or are not) into what they do.
π: 0 β©: 1
MarchieHarrigan In reply to TRiGGER80 [2010-10-07 22:12:26 +0000 UTC]
I honestly think Higurashi was only dubbed to English because so many people were into it. The people dubbing most likely didn't care. Like you said, how much they are or aren't into it affects it. And I find it hard to believe they just have bad quality voice actors when it was dubbed by a studio that is known for really good dubs. Geneon did Samurai Champloo and Paranoia Agent. Both of which were very well dubbed. Higurashi... Not so much. It's more like they did it just to get fans to shut up about wanting an official dub.
But really thinking about it, I think a half-assed dub is more disappointing than no dub at all.
π: 0 β©: 1
TRiGGER80 In reply to MarchieHarrigan [2010-10-07 22:19:01 +0000 UTC]
I agree. Sometimes... its really better to leave things out completely, instead of doin it rong xD
And yeah, the voice talents can love their jobs as much as they want and they can be as good as they want... if they dofnt like the anime they do the dubs for, or dont care for it, then its probably bound to fail.
Same goes for the people that do the actual translation.

Definitely. It's really too bad though. Bad dub aside, Higurashi is a really good anime. A bit complicated at times, but very good.
Also, Finnish dub of Digimon

HAHAAHA! Finnish is one HELL of a language! Trust me: i tried to learn the basics of it xD
German Grammar: four cases
Finnish grammar: FIFTEEN cases!
Its a really.. .strange language. Reason being, that it *IS* strange, and COMPLETELY different from any Roman-italian language, like german, for example... Finnish = Finnish-ugrian group of languages, a completely different tribe xD
Also: FAST FINNISH IS FAST! And Loooooooooong words xD
Lol, and seeing / hearing digimon like that sure is an experience xDD

I think what really got me the most about it is how deep the little boy's voice is. He sounds completely like a grown man. XD
I can only imagine how hard it would be to learn Finnish though. From what you say, it sounds extremely complicated. DX

TRiGGER80 In reply to MarchieHarrigan [2010-10-07 23:16:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, to US, it IS extremely complicated, because were from an entirely different tribe of languages.
And lol, yeah, i get what you mean. Also, the voice"talent" sounds so .. .uhm... overly "motivated" xDDD
But yeah, in some movies, when they do the dub for poland and IN poland, lol, They have ONE single person Dub *ALL* the characters xD With a MONOTONE-AS-COULD-BE-voice xD
π: 0 β©: 1
MarchieHarrigan In reply to TRiGGER80 [2010-10-07 23:30:32 +0000 UTC]
Wow. XD I don't understand why someone would bother dubbing to begin with if they aren't even going to TRY to make it sound good.
Same as I said for Higurashi. Not getting a dub at all is less disappointing than getting a truly BAD dub. Though I suppose that depends on where you are and how often you get good and bad dubs. Who knows? In a place where the vast majority of dubs are horrible anyway, another horrible dub may be greatly appreciated by the general audience.
π: 0 β©: 1
TRiGGER80 In reply to MarchieHarrigan [2010-10-07 23:38:18 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, probably. And over there, with that one-voice-actor thing in poland, that is CLEARLY a financial issue as well.
And meh, what, for example, if you dont speak any english? Or are just plain bad at it?
then you have to take what you get.
π: 0 β©: 1
MarchieHarrigan In reply to TRiGGER80 [2010-10-07 23:59:08 +0000 UTC]
Just dubs that are bad in general. Like the acting and translation are really bad. Whatever language it's in doesn't really matter too much. I'd imagine there are just some places where any dub at all is appreciated. In the US, we get quite a few good dubs, so it's common for American fans to complain if a dub is particularly bad. It's sort of become a trend to hate the 4Kids as well. The dubbing isn't very good and they cut out a lot of stuff. Funimation is the way to go for English-speaking fans of anything it seems.
π: 0 β©: 1
TRiGGER80 In reply to MarchieHarrigan [2010-10-08 00:17:44 +0000 UTC]
Well, yeah, i think, what kind of didnt get my point across was, that i meant, when something is dubbed from, say, ENGLISH *TO* GERMAN. If you dont speak english, then you probably will go with any dub that will be made, even if its a bad one. Sorry, the confusion here was my fault xD I should have said: "If you dont speak the ORIGINAL language".
And yeah, theres quite a few good english dubs, at least what ive heard from.
Thing being, that over here, the GERMAN dubs are based on your ENGLISH dubs, not on the japanese original.. .so i can imagine, if you have a really bad english dub... and then redub it FROM THAT to german.... well, you get what i mean xD
But funnily enough: as ive been told, in the odd case, the german dub sometimes turns out BETTER than the english dub it was dubbed FROM... i mean, thats really rare, but go figure... O_o

MarchieHarrigan In reply to TRiGGER80 [2010-10-08 00:42:51 +0000 UTC]
Ah, okay. I see what you mean now. I'm almost horrifed to find out how bad a German dub of Higurashi might be in that case... I guess if it ever does get dubbed over there, we can hope it's one of those cases where it turns out better than the English dub it's based on. Though I suppose in the case of Higurashi, it's more the voices than the actual dialogue that are truly horrible. Particularly with certain characters such as Rena. Acting is one thing. OVERacting is quite another.

Well, what i see a lot with TV Shows and therealike over here is, that its not so much the voiceators that lack, its mostly that the translation itself can turn out really badly =/

Yeah, I know what you mean. That's why I figure there may be more hope for a Higurashi dub over there. It was mostly the voices that turned out badly in this case. The translation was decent.
