Description
First of all: I did NOT model thisI found this nice model of Star Trek´s "Deep Space Nine" Spacestation somewhere on the web, but sadly, i forgot, who made it... All i remember is, that it originaly was in LightWave´s Model Format... i will see, if i can find out, who originally created this model ^_^
So... This is one of the first things i did, when i switched from 3dsmax to maya, about... uhm... 3 years ago...?...
Now, some of you might think: "Hey, he didnt build the model.. .so what did he do? Just load it up and hit render?"
Well, that is definitely NOT the case. I have rebuild *each and every* shader for this from scratch, which (believe me) was a bunch of work, and tweaked em with all, that i knew about Maya´s complex shading-networks at that time (and that wasnt TOO much, haha! Nowadays, i know much more...) I also , of course, set up the lighting, the camera angle and shader glows and alike... Really, lotsa work... So... just for comparisons sake, here´s a link to what it looked like directly after the import, meaning: what it would´ve looked like if i REALLY just loaded it and hit the render button:

See what i mean?
Good!
Anyways:
Besides the fact that the textures are WAY too lowres (and i get some texture-distortion on the outer dockingring, too), i really like how this turned out! The model isnt overly heavy (thanks to the guy that created it originally!), but it still looks great!
On the other hand:
I think, i can do MUCH better nowadays! Perhap, someday, i will pick up on that and redo everything... build new, better shaders, make better textures than the ones that shipped with the model and then take some nice pictures of it... we will see.
A different angle can be found here:

Thank you very much!
I am quite happy with this one, too, although i consider redoing it, since this was one of the first things i did in Maya and i basicaly knew nothing about it, haha...
Oh, and just in case you ask: This is rendered using Mayas internal software Renderer.

Yeah, she could do with a few new textures, but I'm glad you edited the shading, the original was way too bright. In any case, she still looks good ^_^

Hm, yeah, not just to bright...
There was basically NO shading at ALL, i built all the shaders right from scratch, adding specular information, bump, shader glows (to where it applies) and all... Was a bunch of work...
Well, i really consider redoing it right from scratch, using only the given geometry ^_^
I am very glad you like it... Thankies for yer comment!
Seems you are a big trek-fan yourself, hm?
Me too ^_^
