Description
This is one of my projects for my Photoshop class. The instructor told us to use the techniques we've covered in class for it. The topic is to make a postcard for a place or a business. So I decided to make a postcard about Walt Disney Animation Studios.
There's two reason why I chose this topic.
1. The pictures I need are easy to find. (Disney stuff are everywhere)
2. I know at least 85% of the the movies by heart. (I'm a real Disney fanatic)
Because of this, I was able to get this all done in just one day.
As you can see, I've divided the postcard into thirds.Β
-The yellow top part covers the movies Walt Disney produced himself and the movies the Nine Old Men were involved. This covers the Golden Age and part of the Television Era of Disney Animation.
(From left to right: Robin Hood, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Rescuers, Pinocchio, Aristocats, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians, Lady and the Tramp, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Fantasia, Bambi, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, Sword in the Stone, Jungle Book.)
- The blue middle part covers the movies made after the Nine Old Men stepped down and their trainees stepping up to continue the legacy. This covers the Disney Renaissance and Pre-Renaissance Era.
(Fantasia 2000, Tarzan, Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, Hercules, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin, The Fox and the Hound, Oliver and Company.)
- The red bottom part covers the movies made since the start of the century. This would be considered the Computer Era as the rise of computer animation continues to grow.
(Tangled, Brother Bear, Dinosaur, Chicken Little, Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog, Emperor's New Groove, Home on The Range, Winnie The Pooh, Lilo & Stitch, Wreck it Ralph.
Yeah, I know this is kind of cheating and I'm breaking my policy of only posting stuff that I create. Though I thought it was interesting enough to show you guys how I did.
Well, hope you guys enjoy this. Have a good one.

You know, just because a hand-drawn film doesn't sell as well as a CGI film doesn't automatically mean it's bad and unwatchable!Β What is it with Disney Animation putting so much emphasis on box-office performance over critical reception on their movies?

I love this Disney postcard, happy that at least someone is giving HOTR credit as much as they are doing it for the other "underrated" films from past to present. Even if some of them might not be so popular, they are loved by more than one person as I saw throughout this website.

God, so much nostalgia nowΒ Β
Disney gave me the best childhood ever and althought IΒ΄m 18 now I still love all the movies. Wall-E and Tangled are one of my totaly favorite movies, Treasure Planet is one of the most amazing movies I can think of and all the old 2D movies from Cinderella over Tarzan to Lion King made me to the guy I am now.
Thanks Disney
Also, do you have a 1980x1020 of it? This would make the most epic wallpaper I have.

Impressive, BUT (not to troll on you for this) you forgot Toy Story.

Technically, Toy Story was not produced by this particular studio. That was Pixar.

The film was a pivotal point where Disney decided to shift towards computer animation.Β

That is an incredibly depressing fact.

Trinityinyang In reply to DJ-Bleach [2013-11-13 21:40:13 +0000 UTC]
I know right?
Though don't see why they should shift. It's not because of saving money since they poured big bucks into computer animation (like $165 mill budget for Wreck it Ralph in comparison to Home on the Range with $110 mill).

Princess And The Frog didn't do as well as they hoped, so basically they're scared to do anything but CGI, which is what sells these days.
It's a real shame. I know I sound like a nostalgiafag, but I honestly do prefer 2d animation.

The thing is, Princess and the Frog was a good story, but only made $200 mill. Chicken Little had a mediocre story, made 300 mill. Why is it so unbalanced? I'm not certain. And I don't believe in the changing times thing. Any story, no matter which medium, can be successful with good execution. But seeing how they can make a crap movie that can make a profit, why not? But to be fair, Tangled and Wreck it Ralph were impressive. The upcoming Frozen shows a lot of promise as well.
No it's totally fine, I'm a big fan of old school. One day, I'll help bring it back to mainstream. Something that really sings to the audience. Profit would be secondary.

I'm not too excited for Frozen. That Snowman is the most annoying fuck I've ever seen in a Disney movie.
Best of luck with that.

Well I guess it has become a trend to add an annoying sidekick to an animated film. Probably it's for the kids.

As much as we all love to make fun of Disney nowadays, they have made (and still do make) such magical films that our childhoods continue to cherish.
