Description EDIT:Β I MADE A MORE UPDATED (AND BETTER LOOKING/DESIGNED) TUTORIAL FOR THIS

BIG FILE OKAY

I've always wanted to discuss this topic although I still have loads to learn from it.

So basically, this is MY understanding on flow and rhythm. It may have a different definition for other artists, but this is how I understand it.

Enjoy

Troy is it important for an artist to learn anatomy? If yes, than why?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trisketched In reply to DCxtreme99 [2014-09-09 10:28:31 +0000 UTC]

Definitely because it is an advanced lesson in understanding form, perspective and perhaps rendering. It is also fascinating because there are so many body types out there

DCxtreme99 In reply to trisketched [2014-09-09 13:01:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh ok thank you... is there something else wich I should learn before starting studying anatomy?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trisketched In reply to DCxtreme99 [2014-09-09 14:03:32 +0000 UTC]

Well that would be learning the very basic skill of Visual perception which is being able to convert what you see into drawing

It's showed clearly, due most of the art books doesn't show properly the relationship between flow and rythm; but with your pic, you explained it very well. Β  Thanks for share it...

TheIdealMistress [2014-07-10 01:54:36 +0000 UTC]

You know, this is my favorite tutorial of all times. It really taught me a lot about movement in the body when you're drawing but my biggest concern is how to draw the figure outside of the rhythm and flow. Like I can draw the rhythm and flow easily but my character still looks stiff because I draw on the rhythm and flow. How can I get out of that habit?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trisketched In reply to TheIdealMistress [2014-07-10 05:49:36 +0000 UTC]

what do you mean by "draw the figure outside of the rhythm and flow"? If you want to make your drawings less stiff, try learning the concept ofΒ asymmetry

Well, if you want to look more into rhythm, I suggest looking up the concept of "straight versus curve", something like thisΒ radhowto.blogspot.com/2010/12/…

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheIdealMistress In reply to trisketched [2014-07-10 14:13:28 +0000 UTC]

Well, I meant that I tend to draw very close to the flow or the center line to be more exact and that usually is what stiffens my drawings and so I am trying to get out of that habit but I really don't know how.

This is actually very helpful, thank you!

It all comes to practice. I think it also helps to try to imagine the force in action. Imagine what is under tension and what is relaxed.

Also try out figure drawing and don't worry about accuracy and focus on the force and motion of the subject.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheIdealMistress In reply to trisketched [2014-07-10 17:12:31 +0000 UTC]

Force and motion.. I think I can focus on that moreso than accuracy. I sorta understand what force and tension is but could you still explain both a little to me and how I create and look for that in my drawing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trisketched In reply to TheIdealMistress [2014-07-10 17:20:55 +0000 UTC]

I am afraid is a thing that should be demonstrated. You can always refer to a mirrir if you would like

A-Blue-Bubble [2014-06-15 10:39:26 +0000 UTC]

also flow and rhythm is shown in hair, clothes etc too right? That's all part of it. This is really helpful and fun to read, i like the amount of drawings compared to the amount of text sort of like 'i don't know how to explain this let me show you instead' and that really helped me, who has the attention of a goldfish, to keep with it without losing too much focus.

Its more of a way of thinking! With enough practice and awareness, it becomes almost natural when constructing figures/characters
