Though I think it's asinine to say that one's brain is "corrupted" because they see an erotic scene instead of the dolphins, it's just that an adult's brain notices that pattern more easily since it is wired to be more accommodating for procreation (which is an important biological need). So no "corruption" here, just basic biology. :3

Nice attention to detail. Lots of people forget how good most animal noses are. Human's are almost vestigial compared to most species.

Exactly. E.g. humans can only smell the scent of the soup that's cooking on the oven, but cats/dogs/horses/etc. can even smell what ingredients are in the soup... which is pretty amazing and enviable.
Also, Lyra's sense of smell is even slightly better than that of the average ponies, which will be very advantageous for her in her daily life adventures. (Or is the same, but since it's a new and unusual thing for her that she's paying more attention to it than the other ponies?)
