Description
This is yet another pen and ink project. It is based on a figure I saw in a dream.I wanted to portray the image of beauty that so many women strive to become--shattered, in the mirror.
What the figure represents is the result of self-loathing and the constant torture that so many women around us endure.
It is what their bodies come to look like after their irrational physical conditioning to become what our society has come to call "Beauty", thus the title.
You'll also notice the slit wrist...this was my attempt at emphasizing the sadness and depression that accompanies a woman's inability to become an image of perfection that cannot be acheived.
I hope you guys can appreciate the meaning as well as the art.

Oh, my... this piece is beautiful, it expresses so much! I am in love with it and completely understand your point of view, and what women all over the world, of all ages, and sometimes even men, put themselves through just to be accepted in this superficial sociatyin which we live in now.

It is a very high percentage of women who think like that, maybe not to that extent, but surely has the "I want beauty" complex.
I myself have that concern in a mild way.
I think it's mainly because of the concern of the society's opinion(as you said). Maybe the people around you might put pressure, or you just want to feel you're good enough to the person you're with.
Even when the person tells you you're fine the way you are because they love you, there's still that slight concern in the back of your mind..
All in all it's just a self esteem issue...

I Agree With You 100% That There Is A Certain Pressure On The Female Society Today [ Both Sexes In Truth But It's More Commonly Focused On Women ] To Look Thin & Perfect, I'm Acquainted With Quite A Few Girls With Eating Disorders & It's Truly Miserable To Be Able To See The Look Of Determination & Self Loathing In Their Eyes Or If They Catch Their Reflections. As If Their Deteriorating Bodies Weren't Enough. Our Society Today Focuses Too Much On Appearance & Weight & Not Many Regard Health & Happiness Anymore Which Is A Sad Thought.

finally someone who understands. I'm about 114 or 120 i dunno too lazy to worry about it. I pig out like there is no tomorrow. I'll give my friend a cookie and she'll say "NO, i'll get fat" i tell her, "Cookies don't make anyone fat, you're fat when your doctor say that you're fat."

I came up with a saying I was pleased with myself for.
"You can measure the size of a man's heart by the size of the woman he's with."
Men who know true love and true compassion for what's inside and what's outside find girls who strive to become the media's example of 'beautiful' to be repulsive to say the least.
I can't find a girl attractive unless one of her curves includes her tummy.

So I just wrote a rant on this.
Your drawing is powerful, and it puts into images what I have put into words.
In my opinion, the definition of "beauty" for many women is "death" because of what we potentially put ourselves through to be thin enough.
I'm not going to lie, I've done it all. It's a horrible path to go down, and in this society, it's so hard to love yourself. In fact, I believe it's expected that you don't. The ones who aren't suppose to love themselves, but do anyway, are ostracized by society. They are "wrong" because they are living a healthy mental lifestyle.
Happiness
Happiness=Beauty is what we should see. (Being happy is beautiful) Unfortunately we don't.
"Beauty, for me, is taking what you've got and using it to the best of your ability."-from my rant.
