Description
The Class 908 was a derivative of the 903 Class Cardean built with 5f 9inch driving wheels as opposed to the 49 and 903's 6f 6inch, they were built for intermediate mixed traffic duties, and as such had tenders in length the same as the smaller types in use on the smaller tender engines, but were notably taller.Ten total 908 class engines would be built two would be given names N0 909 Sir James King (Weird that there were two dudes on the board named James, who were both Knighted, but that's Scotland for you) the other being 911 Barochan like that of Cardean was named after the residency of the Deputy Chairman.
They would be succeeded by the Class 179 which was the same bar as the superheating and windowed cabs, although the last member of the 908 N0 917 would have this cab, although it is unknown if this was as built or retrofitted.
