Meh. If I were to take the advice of another guy here, I would have started by pointing at references if actually writing a tutorial on drawing FiM style.

Faerie-StarV In reply to specialeyesplz [2012-11-18 19:01:44 +0000 UTC]

It's called a 'unique' style for a reason. It gets rather old and tiring to see a shit load of FIM style ponies that gets more views while others who draw it out with an unique style barely gets any. What's wrong of thinking outside of the box? We like to see something different instead of a same thing over and over again.

Plus I would be a little sad if I was told that people 'liked my style' when I try pretty hard to draw in show-style.

Some of us want to be able to draw in show-style you know? It's kinda dissappointing when you're looking around for help only to see people who try to offer help but they show inaccurate examples

Streled In reply to specialeyesplz [2012-11-18 23:28:01 +0000 UTC]

DUDE!
Drawing is to find your own style, not to blantly copy-paste show's style...

If you want to draw like in the show, simply search for references and study their anatomy and DRAW, DON'T trace/copy them!.

Many made the ponies in their styles look even BETTER than the show!

If your talking about shitty traced bases/recolors, that's just lazy. Try drawing out in your own style instead of depending on the show style because here's the thing, your gonna get tired of it after few years like many other fan artists. Why do you think they left the fandom, change their accounts, and drew it differently? So you guys won't bitch about it.

Once a while is fine but draw it like that all the time while saying 'it's my style' and not making effort to improve, you'll never grow as an artist. I've seen some of big shot fanartists getting turned down at the art college or at art careers because they can't draw to save their lives. You want to do that only to get popular and pageviews, be my guest but don't go around telling me, Tsitra, and everyone else about how 'shit' our pony fanart is just because it's not 'show accurate'. Some of us want to do something different instead of just following the crowd and that it'll disappear in the fanart with everyone else.

Just don't come complaining to us years later when you get sick of drawing it in FIM style and want to do something different without your 'fans' bitching at you for it because I'll say 'I told you so'. Wait until the fad dies and nearly everyone will leave the fandom since they will not stick around if it's not 'popular' nor still support it.

specialeyesplz In reply to Faerie-StarV [2012-11-19 01:03:57 +0000 UTC]

Wait, now I'm confused. Its not that I'm complaining that something is not show accurate. In fact, there have been pony styles I've seen and loved despite not trying to stick with show style anatomy, but their styles were convincing and purposefully had character. But doesn't it seem funny if somebody says they can draw show accurate but their drawings don't perfectly get there?

specialeyesplz In reply to Faerie-StarV [2012-11-18 21:00:24 +0000 UTC]

I've been poking around tutorials to see what I can learn and I've found this tutorial which can probably show how silly this line of thinking is:

[link]

Unless you think the original Mr. Scribbles was a good style compared to that guy's later edits, I'm not buying the 'unique' style argument.

If there's a reason why people who 'draw in a unique style' don't get many views, it's because their style is either not convincing, or just does not look like the very characters we've grown attached to.

Isn't good to have some variation? The show style can get old and boring real quick.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

specialeyesplz In reply to T-553412 [2012-11-19 02:24:43 +0000 UTC]

Why not? There are pony styles that are very convincing without staying true to show style. Seems to be that the real trick is finding out what works. I could be very unique and draw my ponies with sonic eyes or something but personally, I have no idea how that will turn out.

Faerie-StarV In reply to specialeyesplz [2012-11-18 21:59:01 +0000 UTC]

It's not silly, what's wrong of doing something different instead of just following the same exact things? I guess doing something out of a norm is a 'bad thing'.

Yes, Tsitra360 has an awesome styles and it's nice to see something different instead of FIM styles all the time, just like everyone gets tired of Sonic fan characters or Sonic characters drawn outfit in Sega/Archie style. I say others should do that since the whole point of being an artist is being different and stand out. It's awesome and encourages everyone to get out of a comfort zone.

It's because people like you don't give it a chance nor detach yourself away from it. Get out of your comfort zone and try something different instead of copying styles just because your too lazy to draw out your style and too afraid to be different. It's no wonder why people like you turn prevent other artists from trying out styles because you'll whine and bitch about how it's not 'accurate' screw that! You scare off any potentional artists to do that so that's why they had to rely on the show style instead of drawing it their own unique style since you fans will complain like what happened to my friend who is a former Sonic fanartist.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

specialeyesplz In reply to Faerie-StarV [2012-11-19 00:15:56 +0000 UTC]

I was once told that some norms exist because they work. Not that all norms are justified though.

Even then, that tutorial I pointed at never tried to push one single style but instead only tried explaining why some styles work better than others. This is not the same thing as not trying anything new. Even G4 had to experiment but they're smart enough to know that there are good and bad ways to draw horses.
