I think it depends on what "they" want you to condemn. It might be something you would condemn anyway because of your heartfelt beliefs. So I would opt for standing on the left side. On the other hand, that could leave you exposed to attacks.
I'm a German, and last year there were lots of discussions about the First World War. And about who started it. I took the position that it was pretty clear that the German emperor and his military were the ones who pushed into war. Some others also took that position, but unfortunately the most vocal ones in the discussions declared it was either everyone's fault or even clearly Serbia's fault (or France's, or Russia's etc). The "neutral" position, which nicely removes the blame from "us", still means supporting the notion that there was no reason to punish Germany after the war, and following that, that German retribution for that punishment by starting a new war was bound to happen (or even justified). Ignoring the most striking evidence that WW I (just as WW II) started by German armies storming forward because *no one else was ready for war*. I don't know what the silent majority thought, because it remained silent. I fear a lot of people thought the position "the German emperor started it" also meant "and since the emperor was German, that means Germans are bad" and reacted with rejecting the position because they didn't want to be bad. I knew that a lot of people stood on the same side as I did, but it surely felt as if I was in the minority for speaking up.
Sorry for being so wordy, but I thought an explanation using another context would be clearer that if I tried to talk about religion.

well, you know Islam itself condemn what happened. so I think the first choice is most important to avoid the other choices.
