Description
So this will be another month in where multiple Nicktoon's birthdays take place and thus it will have to be in two separate parts. Unlike in April however, I decided on the character combinations based upon what sort of interactions I could get out of them rather than going by what days came first in the month.

Pig Goat Banana Cricket premiered on the 16th in 2015, leading to it now having turned six years old. This show got a lot of backlash from animation fans online mainly on the claims that the art style was unappealing, a claim which to this day I have to respectfully disagree with. Around the time it came out I felt a lot of western animation was, in my opinion, starting to blend together visually, it was refreshing to see a series with some distinct stylisation and an aesthetic that wasn't afraid to not be surreal and grungy. I will admit though that the story structure of following four separate perspectives through twenty-two minutes, while unique and interesting, didn't feel executed quite that well and lead to many of the individual stories feeling like they had less room to be fleshed out and have noticeable pacing issues. Still though, I'd honestly give this show a recommendation if just for either the visuals or the insanely random stuff that happens in it. I seriously think this show is ripe for golden meme material.

On July 20th, we yet again have two different Nicktoons celebrating their anniversaries. The first of which is Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 2018 now turning three years old. I admittedly have only really watched the first episode of the show back when it was fresh, and circumstances of the time lead to me not really having much interest in it. It felt a bit too sudden to have another reboot in the franchise after the 2012 series ended, and around this time I felt incredibly burned by the network's treatment of both Welcome to the Wayne and Harvey Beaks and just assumed it would hopefully be safe on brand recognition alone. That obviously didn't work out though, and after hearing some positive things about it and seeing some clips of it showing off rather impressive animation quality for a western cartoon in the 2010s, I honestly do want to try give it the full series a watch at some point.

And the other one and final Nicktoon showcased in this part is The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius came out in 2002 and is now nineteen years old. Though one could argue the series is looking to be exactly two full decades old by the end of the year when taking into account the backdoor pilot theatrical movie that preceded it. Being the final piece of the Nicktoons Unite quartet, it was also honestly the one I found myself drawn to the least. That's not to say it wad bad. I appreciated many of the creative scenarios it came up with and did frequent the DVDs now and again (as it was the only one of the four other than SpongeBob that I could find DVDs for). It's just that I personally found other shows like Fairly Oddparents more appealing to my sense of humour. I also found the 3-D animation to be a bit off-putting and janky, though I acknowledge nowadays that it was technically impressive for its time and as far as television CGI it could be a whole lot worse. I guess as a kid I just lacked the nuance to be able to handle the Neutron style.

I'm still trying to figure out how I want to translate Jimmy in drawing form, but for this art piece I decided to give him fewer outlines and used an airbrush to create a fake 3-D effect.
