Description
The birthdays just keep coming, and in just thirteen days the Nicktoons brand as a whole will be exactly three decades old! Lots of work to do before then, but for now we'll focus on getting these three introduced to those unfamiliar.Premiering just a few weeks ago on the 9th of July and thus being the youngest addition to the family at the time of writing this, Middlemost Post follows a sentient, shapeshifting raincloud named Parker working with Angus the sea captain and Russel the walrus in the postal delivery service in the colourful land of Middlemost Mountain. Full episodes have yet to air in the UK where I live as of yet, thoughΒ I did manage to catch the shorts that were uploaded on YouTube the month prior. Just going off those I can see this show having lots of potential for fun hijinks with its more fantastical setting and characters, and it appears to have lighthearted, surreal sense of humour akin to that of shows like Chowder and Uncle Grandpa that some would say is missing in the wake of so many story-driven show. Definitely check it out if you can!
Also if you're wondering why The Patrick Star Show isn't featured, it's because in the wake of Nickelodeon announcing so many projects based on existing IPs I didn't want these art pieces to get oversaturated with spinoffs. Any more going forward have to at least stand out enough from their predecessor for them to feel worth mentioning, like with All Grown Up orΒ The Legend of Korra.
Sharing the same anniversary date with Parker are the filthy rich felines Waffle, Gordon and Mr Blik from Catscratch, a one-season wonder from 2005 that is now sixteen years old. The basic premise of the series could probably best be described as that of the 1970 Disney animated film The Aristocats, in where an elderly lady bequeaths her fortune to her three cats. Tonally however it's closer to Nicktoons from the 90s like The Angry Beavers and Ren and Stimpy, with episode plots seemingly revolving around whatever the writers wanted, from going to the moon to fighting a duck in a wrestling ring.
Third and final to be featured in this art piece is what I would consider to be Nickelodeon's most overlooked and under-appreciated animated show of all time, Welcome to the Wayne. It made its television debut on the 17th in 2017 around four years prior, though like with Jimmy Neutron it can be argued the IP is even older when taking into account the web series shorts from late 2014. Either way, this series really stood out to me for its more off-kilter dialogue combined with having an ongoing story between episodes as opposed to most other Nickelodeon shows around the time being more episodic in nature. Unfortunately it seemed like the universe had it out for Team Timbers, as the network delayed episodes midway through season 1 for over a year and it got unfairly wrote off as a Gravity Falls ripoff within the cartoon community based on surface level observations. In more positive news however the series will be available to watch in its entirety on Paramount+ by the end of next month, so please give it a watch there if you can.
