Jin swiveled around sharply as he heard the sounds of tiny talons clicking on the polished floor of the throne room. Sure enough, there was Shen, looking up at his father with wide, frightened eyes.

"Son?" Jin blinked, noticing the feverish trembles in the chick's movements. "A-are you sick?"

Shen looked down, tears filling his eyes. "N....Nana said that when she looks in her bowl, she sees me grown up......so I'm not gonna die......so you can love me now, right?"

Jin was absolutely floored. There was no emotion to describe how heartbroken he was.

"Sheng....L........come here........"

Fearfully, Shen shuffled forward a bit. His father reached down and hesitantly scooped him up, holding the little feverish body close. The lord sat down on the throne with his son cradled in his lap, eyes shut in silent regret.

Five years, and this was the first time he had really held his son.

Just trying to drum up some attention for the fanfiction that I'm now officially going to write.

NOTE: because this comes from an RP with , we used her names. Hence, Shen's parents are Lord Jin and Lady Ah-lam, and Shen's full name is Sheng Li. This will be explained fairly early on.

As sad as the story gets, it does have a happy ending. (Well, sort of; we all now how Shen's story turned out.) But Shen's parents do see the error of their ways and resolve to spend more time with their son after he has a huge horrible breakdown. The picture is actually based on a slightly later section than the writing excerpt, but I wanted to put the more "oomph" moment in the description.

And I totally BSed it on Shen's parents. Sorry, but we only see them as cutout puppet things; I felt like I could take SOME liberties.
