Description
Since Chuva's first birthday is coming up on July 1, I wanted to see how much she'd changed in a year. So I did a drawing of her in the same position, using the same materials, as I did when I made the first picture of her ever. Here's what I've deducted has changed:

- First of all, the color scheme was corrected. When I first drew Chuva, I wanted to base her outfit on Meta Knight's. So I looked at a picture of him as a reference. In the particular picture I was looking at, it seemed that all of his exposed skin was part of his armor (arms looked like sleeves, head looked like part of the neckguard) so Chuva was colored that way then. Now, her outfit is more accurate.

- One of the first changes made to Chuva's original appearance was adding fingers to her gloves instead of having them more mitten-ish. It made more sense in the context of her being a Star Warrior. This change was made a couple of weeks after the original picture. Now, it remains.

- Eyes say a lot about personality, and the original Chuva "angry eyes" didn't quite reperesent her personality the way I'd wanted. Originally, her eyes were based on Silica's (most of her appearance, and indeed her very existence, was inspired by Silica) but seing as I'd never drawn those kinds of eyes before, they wound up looking weird. I screwed around with them for months before I finally decided on a good way to draw them, which actually looks very different from all the other Hoshi no Kaabii characters. Now, her eyes are round with thick eyelashes on the top, and the pupils (as in the original) are completely yellow instead of "color-inset," which helps to give them a luminous effect.

- The blush on her cheeks was moved away from its original position, beneath her eyes. Again, this was inspired by Silica at the time.

- The design of her armor has changed somewhat. The headress is thicker, and the V-point isn't so sharp. Her cape is longer and more majestic. The shoulder pads are "perkier," or they stand more upright. None of this is too drastically different, but the changes are visible. Also, she's not usually depicted with her sword on her hip, but for comparison's sake I did it that way again.

- Overall, she looks more like she belongs in the universe of Hoshi no Kaabii now, as well as looking more...feminine. Do you know what I mean? Now she actually appears to be, well, a girl. Before she seemed too stern, too stiff, too masculine. Now there's some kind of female aura about her that still doesn't detract from her being a Star Warrior.

And what about her history? Here's what I said about Chuva at the time that she was originally introduced on dA:

"So, here's Chuva, the Hoshi no Kaabii OC I had a dream about. You may notice that she's wearing the same basic thing as Meta Knight, minus the helmet. The idea is that all the pairs of "Star Children" wore similar uniforms, which would make reuniting them easier once it was time for the Star Warriors to assemble. (And on the helmet thing, it seemed more typical for the female warriors to show their faces and have a headress instead.)

Her story goes a little something like this:

Long, long before Hoshi no Kaabii, the all the stars in the universe were given a chance against Nightmare and his Demon Beasts. On every star, at the exact same moment, two children were born, a boy and a girl to each. These children were called the Star Children, and were highly esteemed, because one day they would become the Star Warriors, form the Galactic Soldier Army, and defeat Nightmare.

On one particular star, the two Star Children were named Meta and Chuva. Though born to different parents, they were interlinked more than any siblings can ever hope to be. From birth, each was strangely aware of the other's every waking moment. But as far as their remarkable abilities went, it was only the tip of the iceburg. It soon became clear that these two were strangely powerful, though neither was more skilled than the other. It was clear that these were the foretold Star Children.

Meta and Chuva didn't have a typical childhood. They didn't have other friends, only each other. While the other children went to school, they were training, battling with wooden swords and suchlike. They came to know that they were destined to save the universe from Nightmare, and as soon as they were old enough, they got pretty cocky about it. (It didn't help that all the grown-ups treated them as sacred and whatnot.) They eagerly anticipated the day when demon beasts would arrive on their star, signaling their enlistment into the Galactic Soldier Army. Their favorite game was fighting practice, in which they wore little warrior costumes and beat each other up with wooden swords. Yeah, they thought they were really something special.

On the night that the demon beasts arrived, everybody was prepared. Meta and Chuva were rudely awakened by their parents. They were given uniforms and swords -- real swords, not toys -- and hustled into their capsules. Each capsule was equipped with a Warpstar, which would keep them in hibernation until they were full-grown and guide them to the base of the Star Warriors. But something happened that night -- the only thing known is that the Warpstar in Chuva's capsule was unexpectedly missing. By the time anybody realized it, it was too late. She had already launched.

What happened after that went something like this: Meta became Meta Knight, lived to see the destruction of the Star Warriors, and got a job working for Kind Dedede. Chuva still hibernated, her capsule drifting around aimlessly through space as it searched for its missing Warpstar.

However, her destiny is intertwined with Meta's -- or now Meta Knight's -- and the two will inevitably meet again. How? All I'm gonna say is, Chuva's capsule was for some reason drawn to Kirby's Warpstar.
