Do you think this method would work on old photos?  Making a scrapbook of my parent's wedding pictures and a lot of them have the yellow faded look to them.  Any advice?

I would add, that it is good to play a bit with color curves/color balance of highlights and shadows after that. Those have usually different color temperature. Monotone color with just one variable dimension of brightness looks artificial.
