I curse feet to oblivion. And myself, for making two light sources.
I also tried a new shading method (I don't really have one, so I'm always trying new shading methods anyway) since I was recently informed shadows don't work with black and white only. I hope it looks good.

I know the feeling on the feet 
I think the shading looks good on this one, it's true that black and white don't always work. My standard colours for shadows and highlights are blue and yellow but it depends on the picture. If you have lots of reds on a character or want warms shadows a brown works well

Because it's quite common for kidnappers to take your shoes so they gave them something else that was cheap

Yeah giving them sandles means they have shoes but they aren't likely to go very far as they aren't very protected. That was the theory they had anyway
