Description Well, here we are. With Halloween only days away, it would pretty irresponsible of me to not throw in a Halloween-themed pic for everyone's enjoyment. So here...we...go.

This pic is based on my Danny Phantom fanfic, "Royal Occupation". Set against the backdrop of Halloween, where lots of Casper High students are gracing the school in costume, Sam decides to throw everyone for a loop by coming to school dressed as Danny, of all people. Naturally, this comes as a surprise to most, who were naturally expecting Sam to show up, decked out in an ultra-elaborate, uber-dark, mega-creepy costume. But Sam turns her initially plain outfit on its head by showing there's more than one way to be creepy, as she basically made her costume choice just so she can make out with Danny at school all day and freak everybody else out while she does it. Judging by Tucker and Valerie's reaction, it looks like the plan is coming together nicely.^_^

I have to be honest, I really wasn't sure if I was going to get this pic finished in time. Never mind all the work that had to go into this pic with all the characters on the page and the background (to say nothing of the fact that this was my first time drawing Armored Valerie and there was quite a bit of guess-and-test involved, getting certain details right). But what ended up happening was, I tore up my thumb at work last week (actually, I tore up BOTH my thumbs) and I wasn't sure if it was going to heal enough by the weekend to even TRY and get this pic done. Fortunately, it looks as though luck was on my side (well, that and A LOT of Polysporin), so I was able to sit down and bang this pic out. Definitely gonna want my next pic to be a simpler one, though, but I'm immensely pleased with how this one turned out. Hope everyone else feels the same way.^_^

Well, this group is gaining strength here, but something tells me they won't likely become dominant by any stretch of the imagination. Anyway, I'm glad the pic is gaining attention in any way it happens.

Well, I'm not too proud for a shameless plug every now and then (assuming you don't mind, of course.^_^).

I got curious when I saw the thumbnail, so I guess you lured in one yaoi/pitch pearl fan On the other hand, I'm not a DxS fan (sorry), but I will say the idea is really humorous xD Wow, the shock factor for that performance would be GREAT, haha~ I can see a lot of the students--and faculty--having double takes when they see them in the hall or out of their peripherals. Though after they've had their moment of shock/disgust, they would lose interest or at least no longer be nauseated by it for the same reason Danny's not--it's just Sam, just a couple making-out on Halloween while dressed up.

But I suppose I can't really say when I haven't read the story, huh?

TuxedAaron In reply to FireTrance [2012-11-03 03:47:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, if some members of the "pitch pearl" crowd get lured in by the thumbnail and like it, then that's all well and good (the more, the merrier and all that). Still doesn't mean I'm going over to that side, though.^_^;

But yeah, freaking as many people out as she can was definitely Sam's intention behind her costume choice. Although in the story, they didn't get a lot of chances to make out that much, so it's pretty safe to say that no one got the chance to be desensitized to it.^_^

Nor shall I cross onto the DxS side. Neither one of us is interested in the other's ship, so don't worry about me plaguing you about it ;3

aah~ Not even an issue then I would say more, but I'm tired and I think I'll just let this die here. Just awkward when I don't know the story.

Well, since my fanfic series is big into D/S, it's unlikely that you'll read it, so how things develop will likely be of little interest to you.^_^

Well, this pic is just awesome. Whenever I read the scenes, I always thought it was more along the lines of funny than creepy whenever Danny and Sam would have a moment. Having seen the picture now though, I have to admit my reaction would be closer to Valerie and Tucker's if I ever saw something like this happen. I know you didn't intend to creep out the audience, but I guess that just goes to show how well you draw your audience in if they feel like how your characters are feeling.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TuxedAaron In reply to Mathemagician93 [2012-10-31 16:45:33 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's true, my intention for this scene was for it to be freaky to the characters and not the audience. But if that effect has managed to bleed out of the fourth wall a little bit, I suppose I can take a small measure of pride in that as well. Kind of having the audience react in more ways than was intended should make the piece all the more successful.^_^

Glad you like it.^_^

Gives the phrase "Love Thyself" a whole new meaning. I love it, it really seems like something Sam would do - fits the whole "dare to be different" attitude quite nicely.

Well, I'm pretty sure Danny doesn't see it that way (not wanting to get down with that "Pitch Pearl" crowd). But yes, I did think it was something Sam would do to freak people out. Which is why I had her do it in my fanfic, which led to the pic you're seeing now. And yes, it's definitely different, yet staying true to the very effect she wanted to pull off.

So glad you like the pic.^_^

Well, Sam may indeed look like Demi Moore in "Ghost", what with Danny's short cropped hairstyle. I don't know if that was Butch Hartman's intention in those couple of eps. when he had Sam running around in Danny's clothes, but I can't help but wonder if the thought didn't cross his mind at least once, in retrospect.

So glad you like the pic.^_^

You know, someone brought up a very interesting point about Ember as well. That when Hartman was coming up with the basic idea for her, one of his inspirations was the Edgar Allen Poe poem, "The Raven" (which is actually a pretty sound theory).

Well, I don't know for certain, it's just a theory I heard one time (although it certainly wouldn't surprise me). But then, Hartman went out of his way to throw nods to several ghostly pop culture examples. "Amity" Park..."Casper" High...a tradition that I plan to follow in my next fanfic work when I reveal the school Danielle has been attending since the Fentons adopted her.^_^

Well, I hope to be proud of even more pics as my work rolls on.^_^

TuxedAaron In reply to IZZY-CHAN13 [2012-11-03 04:01:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, for the record, Danielle IS canon. She was introduced in the episode, "Kindred Spirits", when Vlad was hatching a plot to create a clone of Danny, which of course, would be loyal only to him. Of all his experiments, Danielle was the most successful one. Even though she only grew to the age of 12 during cloning... and she was...you know, a GIRL (apparently Vlad cut out the Y-chromosome somewhere in her cloning process), she was also the only one who actually looked human. She was also able resist the cellular degeneration that destroyed all of Vlad's other clones. But when she discovered that Vlad was only out for himself and had no intention of curing her condition (he was only keeping her around until he had created a 100% PERFECT clone), she rebelled against him and set off on her own.

However, Danielle would reappear in the second-last episode, "D-Stabilized", where Danny cured her cellular decay using a chemical invention of Jack's called Ecto-Dejecto (It was designed to weaken ghosts and make them easier to handle, but of course, since JACK was the one who designed it, it only made ghosts stronger). After that, Danielle took off on her own again. Which then leads to my fanifc, "A Family Thing" (which you should be able to get the most out of if you'd like to read it, now being more familiar with Danielle's back-story).

Well, if you have access to Netflix, you can always watch the series there and catch up with any eps. you may have missed (Nickelodeon is a HUGE contributor to Netflix, although I keep wondering when they're going to update FOP past Season 5).

As for Danielle, yeah, she's had it kind of rough (which is why there's a moment at the end of my fic, "A Family Thing" that becomes so emotional for her). BUt yeah, you could say it was kind of like Mewtwo...except...you know...without her being a Pokemon...and having the godlike psychic power and stuff.^_^

Hmmmm, a Dis*cough!*ney franchise you say. Hate to say it, but that really doesn't narrow it down very much. What with Dis*cough!*ney having bought Marvel Comics a couple of years ago and Lucas Films just a couple of days ago, that could pretty much be anything these days. Still, I'm no stranger to Dis*cough!*ney franchises, myself, as you've no doubt seen with my KP pics (I also have a fanfic series there, as well, along with a fanfic mini-series based on Gargoyles).

Well, I've heard that DP is available on DVD, but I think you can only get it through Amazon.com. I, myself, had some of my friends download the entire series for me before that happened, though (I just got tired of Nickelodeon dragging their feet on the whole thing).

What exactly are you sorry for though?

Well, I didn't really have a problem with Disney buying Marvel when they did. After all, DC comics has been owned by Warner Bros. for years (that's why all their animated shows are such high quality). Maybe with Disney behind them now, Marvel can level the playing field a bit. But now that they've bought out Jim Henson Studios and Lucasfilm, it's kind of suggesting to me that maybe Disney doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in producing movies and TV shows under their own power anymore. So they'll be kind of outsourcing to these other producers, like they do with Pixar.

Well, the thing is, it's not just Gargoyles. The simple truth is, Disney has never given ANY of their TV properties a fair shake. How else do you explain how it took 15-20 years just to put shows Gargoyles, Rescue Rangers and Darkwing Duck on DVD. And they didn't even finish putting out Gargoyles, which is why I needed my friends to help me out with downloads again. Same thing with Kim Possible, which hasn't even made it to DVD yet (I had my friends download the series for me, since I didn't plan on waiting for Disney to get off their butts).

But Gargoyles does still have a fan base out there. I've had quite a few good responses to the fanfic I wrote, which I was very proud of when I finished it.^_^

I figure any 2000s+ shows are available on DVD xP
I don't necessarily need to own everything though... if anything I really do want Goof Troop on DVD and perhaps that overlooked Now and Then, Here and There anime series >___>

I forget.

Disney stopped having "confidence" in itself since Walt decided to host programs on television and opened up them theme parks. Through advertising and buying out certain channels (History Channel, ESPN) and movie companies (?) like Touchstone and Miramax... (I might have to look that up later to confirm that; maybe here I'm using old information)
Oh wait I'm not going to forget merchandising on a grand scale
Pixar... people have this tendency to believe that Pixar = Disney and I'm always driven up the wall for that

Yeah.... the 90s are SO neglected
It's not fair since I actually didn't have cable growing up (but I did enjoy KVIE/PBS nontheless) so I never really had the chance to catch up with everything; I retrospect like crazy xP

I know a couple people who are huge fans of it
It's good knowing other fans found your fanfic~~

Well, no word for Goof Troop on DVD. Like I say, Disney's never given their TV properties a fair shake. Which I think is foolish, because I think they'd be making a mint (assuming that no one's gone and downloaded shows because they got tired of waiting...like I did).

Oh, Walt Disney hosting programs on TV and opening up theme parks wasn't a lack of confidence. If anything, it was Walt exuding nothing BUT confidence. Walt did those things because he 100% stood by everything he created. This was a guy who wanted the entire WORLD to know about his product. He wanted EVERYONE to have a piece of what he was offering and to have a chance to enjoy it. Such a shame that the company hasn't really followed in his ideal footsteps.

Well, I kind of know how you feel. I mean, I did have cable when I was a kid (although I did enjoy PBS...Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood and all that). But I still didn't have access to a lot of the shows that American audiences got to enjoy. Shows like Transformers were few and far between and GI Joe was virtually non-existent.

Yeah, I'm glad that others have found my Gargoyles fic, too. Personally, I'm waiting for when someone comes to me, complaining over the fact that I used "The Goliath Chronicles" as the jumping-off point for it, instead of Co-Creator, Greg Weisman's 2007 comic book mini-series.

Disney Corporation needs to be slapped in the face

Ehh.. I'm not a big fan of Walt for various reasons... Most everyone looks up to him as this godlike source of inspiration; I look at him as this sleazy choleric businessman with little (narrow) sense of humor that takes way too much credit for "his" work.. I don't forget said Disney strike or how he treated Ub Iwerks (a name totally forgotten in animation history, lol..)
Like I said, I respect him for making animation as big of an industry as it is... but I also have to point out how formulaic and market-oriented this work was (Disney = animation monopoly now cheesy kid/adolescent pop music entertainment monopoly)
Oh.... and if it wasn't for Walt we wouldn't have anime/manga by storm... a blessing and a curse

Transformers; never cared for giant battling robots
And GI Joe... weren't both those shows aired in the late 80s?

Oh lol looking for the "newbie" in the Gargoyles fandom are you? You can teach them on said show~~
I'm still waiting for someone to wage a full scale wat against me with my Goof Troop... thing (some have already complained for a bit or two; I must mainly get invisible mixed reactions )

Well, I have no problems with Walt Disney. I'm just not a fan of the way the company is being run these days. I can only hope that sooner than later, the people at the top will be those who look back with fond memories about how, when they were young in the 90s, Disney was at the top of their game and maybe they'll work to try and bring those days back again, instead of sitting on their laurels like the company has been for so long.

True, without Walt Disney's influence on Osamu Tezuka, manga and anime certainly wouldn't be where it is today. Fun little fact...when Tezuka started putting his stories together into collected volumes, he would actually draw himself into little added segments so he could introduce each individual story, in much the same way that Walt would make his TV appearances.

As for Transformers and GI Joe, yes, they were both in the 80s. Like I said, there were a lot of cartoons from that era that I missed out on in my youth.

As for Gargoyles, well, it's not so much for me to instruct newbies. I just figure some controversy is bound to happen. See, when the Gargoyles series ended, Disney did a spinoff series called "Gargoyles: The Goliath Chronicles" to keep it going. That series didn't really do very well (it lacked a lot of the qualities that made the original so good). But then, in '07/08, series Co-Creator, Greg Weisman, wrote a comic book mini-series to have his own continuation, ignoring the events in "Goliath Chronicles". And because Weisman was the one who wrote it, a lot of people have begun to regard the comic as the TRUE sequel of the series.

I doubt they will look back; they're making a ton of money as it is.. in a world where "reality tv" reigns and people have forgotten to read and think critically.. where nothing is left up to the imagination any more *goes on rambling about the strange world we live in*

Heh heh that's cute~~

And if anything, Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira manga series is by far the best manga I will ever read, hands down

I did not know that (I did hear about Chronicles being less fan savvy than the original though).. That's quite intriguing--
So would you want them to school you then? I'm partially kidding

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TuxedAaron In reply to IZZY-CHAN13 [2012-11-10 15:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's true, reality TV is a bit of a problem these days *bites his tongue to avoid rambling about the freak show that has become TLC*. But some scripted TV shows remain very good...at least, in my opinion.

Actually, anyone who's a Tezuka fan (and who has the ability to play Game Boy Advance games) owes it to themselves to play the GBA game, "Astro Boy: The Omega Factor". Not only did that game feature almost every single character Tezuka ever created, after you unlocked them all and achieved the game's "true" ending, the Options Menu offers you a Gallery, along with complete bios on every single character. It's really quite fascinating.

Yeah, I was born in the late 70s, myself (Snake year). Of course, these kinds of shows came on TV at a time when I was old enough to appreciate them. Still never saw them, though.

As for my Gargoyles fic, understanding that you're kidding, no, I'm not looking to get schooled by anyone who would find my choice of continuation controversial. If anything, I'd be looking to school anyone who complains as to why I made the choice I did. It's true that a lot of people consider the TRUE Gargoyles sequel these days to be comic book mini-series that was written by series co-creator, Greg Weisman (I call it a mini-series because Weisman only wrote 12 issues and then, stopped, so let's call a spade a spade here, people). However, I chose to use "The Goliath Chronicles" as my jumping-off point for a number of reasons. While I'll be the first to admit that it IS a flawed work (and in a lot of cases, had nowhere near the bite that the original series had), "The Goliath Chronicles" really had one thing that Weisman's comic book attempt never had. And that was closure.

I'm not saying that the stories Weisman put together in the comic were bad. He actually introduced a lot of good ideas that had the potential of blowing the whole Gargoyles mythos wide open (he also threw in a hefty scoop of drama in a little subplot where Elisa breaks up with Goliath for all of five minutes). The problem was, potential was really as far as he went with it. Because the comic ended after only 12 issues, most of the ideas he introduced wound up hitting a wall and just stopped (even his spinoff graphic novel, "Gargoyles: Bad Guys" ends, quite literally, in the middle of nowhere). As a result, most the main plot points and concepts he introduces are left with no follow-through...no resolution...and ultimately, no payoff. So what was even the point? In my opinion, if he wasn't going to see it all the way through, he would have been better off just leaving well-enough alone.

Still, it wasn't a total loss. In my fic, I write about a Gargoyle named Katana, who just happens to be a Gargoyle that Weisman introduced at the very end of the comic's run. I actually had a different type of Gargoyle character in mind when I was doing the initial planning for the story and what kind of role she'd play. But then I figured, why try and re-invent the wheel? Katana's already here, she's a blank canvas. Might as well see what I can paint. All things considered, I'd say I came up with something pretty good.
