This picture shows some of the steps I took when creating this digital 'painting'. As you can see in the first few frames, I'm using a grid to help with layout. 'Gridding' can help you create a faithful reproduction of a photograph, but it will probably not help you learn to draw or paint. The photograph is not my own, It is a screen grab from one of the Matrix movies.

This picture took several hours to create.

I used Photoshop with a mouse, the main tool being the airbrush, usually set at a very low intensity (around 10%). I have the source picture and the one I'm working on open at the same time and side-by-side in the application. A grid is overlaid on the source picture and the one I'm working on which means I can refer to the grid lines when painting. I hope you find this interesting
