The next part of the '2012 Planetary Dragon Series...'

The Newfound Blob dragon!

...

...

...

No-no, guys, I'm serious! It's really called that! ( *snort* And scientists think they're so smart that they name all these things with big, long names full of random letters and numbers... How do they explain this?! )

I'm immensely fascinated with the Newfound Blob. Why? Because, for one, it's immense. For second, it's basically a chunk of shrapnel that flew off of the universe's hide when the Big Bang happened. Meaning...it's the oldest, most immense thing we've ever been able to observe in our known and visible universe.

It's connected to how we observe ancient galaxies. They are so far away, the light we are able to see now is actually the light that was emitted millions of years ago... The distant galaxies we're seeing today are the galaxies that were born when the dinosaurs were around. Cool, huh?

But the Newfound Blob is much older than that, even! The light we're seeing from the Newfound Blob is the light that...blue-green algae was seeing? Not even that... It's pretty much what God was seeing after He took off his 3D glasses and was like, 'Heck yes! Universe, go!'

*ahem*

Okay. So in math terms now. The Blob is 12.9 billion years away from earth. (/Billion!/) Billion, guys, not million. It's 55,000 light years across, which is about a quarter of our Milky Way Galaxy. Okay...now except for the billion part, what's special about it? It's the most /massive/ known object in the universe - 40 billion suns...that's more than I can lift. The blob is believed to be formed when the universe was only 800 million years old, (and in space-terms, that's like 3.) This is called the 'reionization' time in the universe's life, and is actually the time when stars, quasars, galaxies, and other objects were being formed from the ancient hydrogen. Cool, huh?

So that's why I like it so much...it's /so freaking old,/ and that ancient universe stuff is so antiqued and wicked and monstrous. Which is why the dragon here hails to a t-rex sort of critter - huge, armed with vicious jaws and claws, and not even having fully-formed wings.

In other words. He's the great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather of all the other Planetary dragons from all the series EVER. ._.

Heh, he just laughs when all the other younger galaxies in his families complain.

"Cannibal brothers! Ha, when I was your age, we had to still worry about GRAVITY holding together!"

Haha, exactly! He laughs at them from his old rocking chair at the edge of the universe.

This seems a bit more dinosaur like. The lighting reminds me of the Southern/Northern lights.

Yep, exactly, since he's ' prehistoric' compared to the other galactic dragons. Thanks!

LOL LOL LOL - The art is grand, as always (love the green and blue light gradations), but it is your descriptions that really get me laughing. Awesome stuff, from all perspectives.

DUDE.
Crazy awesome astronomy there.
How do you hear about this stuff, anyway? Is there like an awesome astronomical discoveries (that are terribly named ) email list or something that I don't know about?
And HEY, crazy awesome dragon!! Nice idea with the T-Rex theme!

I know, right?! I watch the Science Channel a lot, and hit things up from there, and I also do a lot of independent research and reading articles and such. I'm a knowledge addict, hahaha. I /highly/ recommend Morgan Freeman's 'Through the Wormhole' - the theories are just so awesome and mind-bending!
And thanks! ^^
