Description Nailed it! ... I think.

For a long time now, I've had an image of a made-up car in my mind, yet whenever I try to get it on paper, whether just doodling or doing a proper attempt like this, it somehow has never turned out looking how I imagine, and sometimes doesn't even look right at all in general, as in proportions etc.
This time however I think, more or less, I've done it right - near enough anyway. The rear view still looks a bit weird, but you can imagine how it's supposed to be by looking at it from the top view.
The initial blueprints this was based on (only used for general proportions - then heavily changed to fit this car; the only things really remaining the same are the positions of the wheels - though looking at it now, having the rear wheels just a tad further back may have looked a little better) were those of a Mercedes 500K - rather suitable seeing how this is supposed to be the same style of car - big, expensive and imposing. yet more artistic than a Rolls Royce (Phantom III was also considered for base blueprints, but discarded as it wasn't low and sleek enough).
The sidelights and brake lights integrated into the wings/fenders were inspired by the rear lights of a BMW 600, of all things. Initially there weren't going to be any 'proper' headlamps at all but I decided against it in the end, and actually going for a quad lamp layout.
Covered front wheels wouldn't have worked on this one, unless the fenders were widened even more to allow for steering space - which would have only ended up looking not quite right (as in previous designs...), the car was already widened by about 10% in comparison to the 500K it was based on.
Working the window and rear or the car was hard - most doodles I had done had a fastback, but when drawing it properly here, it just didn't look right; yet a more vertical back completely ruined the fast and sleek look I aimed for - so I went for a more angled approach instead. it was the best-looking result of quite a few different attempts at designing the rear.
I didn't want it to look too 'batmobile-like' so tried not to overdo the pointy bits too much - yet wanted it to look very art deco, very 1930s style. There is very little inspiration from more recent designs, if any at all. Mostly it's just an idea I've had in my mind, slowly forming over the years, at times more curved, at others more sharply angled in design, though the final result has had some slight inspiration from period Mercedes, Rolls Royce and Bugattis, and maybe more obviously (for the top view anyway), from the 'Z-Type' car in the game GTA2.
Still not 100% sure on the rear view, but am content with the top, front and side - so that's good enough now.

Great art-deco inspired design! It's so classy! There are some hints of Buggatti styling and the rear window reminds me of Pierce-Arrow aerodynamic cars.

I see what you mean, and thanks

The back end did have a hint of Bugatti inspiration - see here: [link]
The side has a little bit of Bucciali inspiration, with the long, low profile.
And the front and top are more imagined than inspired by anything else.

The overall idea I had in mind was to make something that looked all at the same time fast, expensive, imposing, mean and stylish. Something that would not look out of place alongside Rolls Royces and Bentleys, yet be fast and powerful enough to also be considered a proper sports car and not just a rich poser car.

It may have been taken a little more seriously if I were born 90 odd years earlier haha!

Hey Dan nice work dude That top view reminds me of GTA 2 indeed, but you did a good job on all the view if you ask me, it isn't easy drawing something from multiple viewpoints man, I try this by myself at the moment aswell and it's hard^^ But again; You do great^^

Agreed! Different angles is one this, but keeping it all consistent is more tricky... when it was finidhed, I did notice a couple of inconsistencies (front headlights for example - top view implies they're above the grille, which isn't the idea, and the front more accurately shows them in front of it, just under the top) but meh... overall came out all right!

Not much, really...
I haven't been very active with art at all this year - not sure why really. At the moment it's that fun time of the year leading up to exams
Sounds like the summer will be rather full of cars though.

oh, but I do have a new car 1975 Alfa Romeo GT1300 - in rather good condition too!
