Description
Today was the last day of class for my ISP ecology course. It was the one where my students get to present their end of term projects to one another. So I greeted them at the door with fresh-baked bagels, cream cheese, and a fursuit. Samara was quite spooked at first and in the end but she is a good sport about the whole thing. By the end of the two hours, we all were chatting and having fun, and competing for the extra-credit points by selling our term projects to one another. The most heartening thing I saw though was AFTER class - as there they were, outside and together: Students from China, the USA, Jamaica, laughing and chatting, (hopefully) exchanging telephone numbers and making connections that make this international world of ours a little bit smaller, friendlier, and better. I cannot but wonder, in a decade or two, what will my students remember the most about our ISP class? I hope they learned the value of storytelling, of observation and recollection, preservation of integrity, and courage to try something new even when confronted with uncertainty and fear. ISP203L has been an excercise of learning for me as well. I learned a few new phrases of Chinese from my international students, and saw some terrific imagination and insight. I will always remember you and what you taught ME about teaching.

Awesome! Your fursuit is so cool. The only time i've ever seen a teacher in a fur suit is when one of the PE teachers dressed up in a timberwolf (Which is our mascot) and started dancing or something, we could see him out the window XD

Ah, but what if he didn't automatically give you an A ? Would you be inspired to work harder, knowing that even a fursuiter doesn't guarantee a passing score in his class?
Anyway, Thanks!

I'm more fursuiter than furry, actually... I dunno (!) how to you label someone who is interested in pretty much everything? (except accounting, taxes, and historical timeline assignments)

I am an aspiring teacher. A Graduate training assistant (GTA), who teaches under the tutelage of the professor who runs the integrative sciences program (ISP). Otherwise known as a grad student, they call me "mister", and not "professor", 'cause I need to earn that title
but still, I do the grading, the lecture, the field trips, and even get to modify the curriculum (with approval) and teach it according to my style. Think of a GTA as a sort of intern, if you will, within the academic world. Not all TAs get this much lattitude with the lab-based course - I'm trying to ease a few extra skills into the mix like how to rely on the library when doing research rather than simply wikipedia and google, along with some basic spreadsheet graphing skills and even a bit of public speaking & presentation. These are all skills that involve communication on a professional level within the academic community so I hope it helped. We'll see what happens when the final evaluations come in.

I actually read all that without getting confused. XD Sounds really cool! I'd say I wish I could do that, but I'm more of a drawing-in-a-secluded-room-by-my-self kind of person. XD

omg that;s so cool. A teacher/professor wearing a fursuit. If only a professor of mine did that. Would make my college experience so much more entertaining.

I am so glad that you were able to wear your fursuit to class and that you had such wonderful students. ^^
And it is rather amazing how teachers also learn from those they are teaching!

That is awesome! If mine was finished I would totally wear it the last day of SMCC before heading off to MSU this Fall. x3 At least I get to show my unfinished head (missing a nose and still trying to adjust eyes) along with a tub of faux fur and sewing machine everytime I have to bring it to and from home a couple of times. :'D It's so bittersweet to leave, but there's always another adventure out there and I hope it turns out amazing for ya.

Bravo! from the pic it looks like you had a great time (bagels, cream cheese and a fursuit? Would that my profs back in the day were as amazing!)! As I said before, as a fellow Beastcub suit owner, I know how great it feels to walk around as your character.
Thanks for posting such positive pics and comments about your adventures as Tycho too, they're wonderful to see/read.
