THe most fun part of fursuiting for me is when you start out with a child who doesn't quite know what to do with you, and you charm them into playing with you. It's a delicate artform, for if you stand away too far, they get suspicious and if you move in too fast, they panic and the deal's off for good. So, I consider it sort of like a fursuiter's equivilant of "catch and release', where you gently reel them in, capture their imagination, play for a little while, then leave them delighted and eager for your the next visit or chance encounter. Well, I designed my suit; Conceived of it, then did a bunch of sketches, then hired an artist to turn my sketches into a character reference sheet (which we worked on for a while), and then once the ref sheet was done, I copied everything including about seven pages of notes on how I wanted it to look, along with how I was planning on using it, and commissioned of Beastub Creations who happened to be thinking of creating an Aussie. Her talents were able to take the idea and turn it into reality. We went through a couple iterations of paws, created two tails before settling on the one Tycho currently has, and we also reworked the eyes once or twice to make it perfect. Since then, there's been a few other modifications, like the integration of a 12V NimH, rechargable triple-fan air circulation system, and internal belt loops for hanging the battery packs.
Future design mods might include some pockets and some zippered vents under the arms to help the costume breathe on the 90-degree days that I sometimes see.

Aw, that's so cute! I never thought of that, and I appreciate knowing that fursuiters will consider this. (either with my children or otherwise). I remember growing up TERRIFIED of anyone in mascot/animal costumes, because of a rush simalar to what you mentioned. - good thing I'm over that now.. mostly. ^^"

roflmao. I need to get some sleep. It's almost 2 in the morning, and at first I thought that was a real dog, and it caused me to hit the uncanny valley and feel very afaid in my soul. Then I realized it was just a furry costume and was like "OH! No, all's good here."
