Description
A spark of inspiration struck last night, so I whipped up a Terragen render and went to work. I've been wanting to make a sun for a while, but every time I've tried, it came out terrible. I think I got a decent one this time. Its supposed to be a star nearing the ending of its life, growing several times its size as it exhausts the last of its resources.Terragen, about 11 hour render
Photoshop, around 5 hours post work.

Thanks for your review, your words are too kind. The bluish lights are intended to be lense flares. I did blow them out a little too much and you're right, it was distracting from the image. I've adjusted them what is a more suitable level. I looked at the image without them and it felt empty and boring. They do a good job for eye movement. Also, they slightly cover the planets or moons adding some what of a mystery to them. Hopefully they are now a less distracting part of the image.

Cool!
Your work has inspired me, in the past, to help my Hadaeon Epoc Earth story.

That sun is looking good! Keep at it, I'm sure you'll make pieces with close-up suns in it that will impress even you
The marbling texture, and fire haze surrounding it looks fantastic
I don't know about the science behind the sun, but somehow I imagined if it were dying, it would be more combustible looking, like when a volcano explodes. So there'd be more flame flares coming out of it. *shrugs*

Yeah, but it comparison to it's increasing size, it might not seem as noticeable. Idk though, I just make this shit up.

This is the type of image that used to make me day dream back in high school about space and stuff. Reminds me of some of David A. Hardy's work in an old book called Challenge of the Stars by Patrick Moore (RIP).
Much nicer to see such stuff in photons than on printed paper though!

Photons are the way to go with space stuff for sure. YAY LIGHT!

A side note:
I think the complaint about the "Lens Flares" is unfair. I saw it as radiation effects (like Aurora or something). The standing pool of liquid however, that has to be hydrocarbons or something... Water would have long since disappeared...

This is my personal favorite from you. The sun and planets in the background look incredible. I also love the orange-ish sky illuminated by the sun as well. The atmosphere's just breathtaking.

The mountains in the back look too faded, and the island in the lower right looks too dark. Otherwise...
Damn.
Just...
Damn.
I can see a little of trouble with the sun, but it still looks incredible. This looks like something that I could just walk into. Try to make the flow in the star look a little more random and natural, maybe study some stars to see what patterns they make, but otherwise this is amazing.

Seeing the orange color sun and this type planet I cannot help but this image as a concept for what the planet Gliese 581. This image being what it might look like, and the surface is in reality cold with a natural gas river like Titan has, as I see it here, it is still nice work, I like the concept drawn up here.

You mean what you were looking for was a red dwarf like star with plants around it similar to, well makes sense.

I love this. I wish I could find a Terragen again. That program could never render out past certain resolutions, was really annoying. How big can you render out?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TylerCreatesWorlds In reply to Byakuhan [2013-03-01 21:20:09 +0000 UTC]
as big as id like. But the bigger, the longer it takes to render.

Byakuhan In reply to TylerCreatesWorlds [2013-03-03 16:40:23 +0000 UTC]
ahh. Where did you get the program? Straight from Terregan's website?
Did you have to purchase this edition, so that you can render out the larger resolutions?
